springs/lowering kit advice

  1. #1
Okay so I got a nice VTS, sorted out a few little bits with it that it needed, last thing on the list is to sort out the suspension. Previous owner has lowered it and the kit they have used is terrible, its far too hard so the car just skips over rutted surfaces, geometry feels out too so I'm going to swap the suspension and then get it all lined up.

here it is at the moment

I guess that is quite a big drop? 50mm?

What I'm after is a kit that lower than standard say 30mm but one thats not too hard. In the past on my previous cars I've had eibach springs which were very good has anyone tried them on the sax? Other suggestions would be good too

    thanks!

Not sure about the eibach springs, but if its better ride then the GMC kit is supposed to be quite good, shall be ordering mine soon, kit contains GMCs own springs and bilstien shocks.

The gmc billies are supposed to be very good. Doesnt look too low mate, sits perfect imo.

I dont know anyone who has used the eibach springs personally.

what system is on the car. If there are adjustable dampers soften them off.

depnds how hard you want the ride, performance and ride or solely perfromance

ride is the main consideration really

I know its easy to start thinking about spanking money on new parts but the current set up could be good enough and just need tweaking.

You haven't said what is on there at the moment. If you have adjustable dampers one of the biggest mistake people make is to stick them on their hardest setting. They then complain about the car being skittish on the road / end up in a field.

They do this because they believe they are stiffening up the suspension. It does not alter the spring rate though.

The right way to do this is run the dampers on the softest setting that will control the spring and generally speaking the springs that come with kits are not that stiff.

An example - on my 205 rallye I have 280Ib spring on the front / 180Ib on the back and 24 click adjustable leda coilovers. On the road the dampers were set on the 6th softest setting and it was perfectly manageable. On the track with stiff sidewalled track tyres I raised that to position 15.

If that doesn't work or they are non adjustable only then would I look at replacing parts.

ps the eibach springs are very good. The prokit lower approx 30mm on the saxo and work very well even with standard dampers. No crashing over bumps.

hmm will have a closer look but I think they are just cheapo springs. I'm not looking to shell out for coilovers or anything like that, just a reasonably good kit with about a 30mm drop would be ideal

if its cheapo springs on standard dampers it would be a wise choice to go for something like the Eibach prokit. Check that the o/e dampers are okay though before putting them back on.

Gra (KamRacing) you know your shit don't you lad!

I think I'll go for a full spring/damper kit. Anyone have any reccomendations?

    Bilstein inserts with eibach springs..

about the best combination you can get

hmmm will probably be a bit more than I was wanting to spend
