Saxo or not?

  1. #1
    Hey all im new here!

I really like the look of the saxos, i have about £1500 to spend on my first car - i have 24/7 accest to a Megane 1.4 and Micra 1.1

I am interested in buying a soxo but heard only some of the modles are good! The Vtr and west coast...i don't think i can afford these as much as i would love one ( unless i saved more )

How do the normal Saxos SX or 1.1i X or east coast, modles liek them how do they compair to say, Corsa B 1.1-1.2, fiesta 1.3 or 1.25 if i could get one and a clio 1.1-1.5 depending on insurance.

These are the cars i have been interested in for my first car what do u think!?
  2. #2
My mate has got a 1.1 desire, but they only come on the mk2's so mite be a bit out of your price range. But i would imagine the 1.1i X Would be roughly same spec. Matt (Willsy has got a 1.0 and he gets around in it ok!!!!
  3. #3
I gotta 1.1x 98 saxo im only learning to drive in it at the moment but goes alryt for a 1.1 got 63k on clock and i paid £750 and will do a 1,2 corsa
  4. #4
I brought my westcoast for £1600 and love it, i'm sure you can get a decent one for less than £1500! good luck with it!

My insurance is only £750 fully comp soon to be £500 at the end of the month....(I have got NCB though)

Pic in my profile if you want too

    And welcome btw!
  5. #5
What is the situation on insurance dude?

If you can aim for a westcoast, very nice starter car. VTR might be a bit too expensive on the insurance side of things

£750 insurance is nice, are u named driver? For 19 that seems nice, oh and you're fully comp! Just gona take a look at you're pics

As for my insurance i duno £1000 not much more than that really ;/ been able to get quotes £650 + ish for corsa 1l etc not as named driver

Atm i am with asda under mums name But they don't insure <21 from February, so she is gona change to Direct line i think and i could build up ncb there i think
  7. #7
Try www.quinn-direct.com for a good quote, well, alot of people get good ones.

Westcoast would be pretty cool. Better than a corsa handling wise

Its up to you dude, you need to get something you like
  8. #8
Auto trader doesn't come up with any west coasts near me
  9. #9
be prepared to travel for a decent saxo mate

Aye well supposed i would have to, could get my brother ( twin ) to drive me! He has a corsa be 1l!

Depend on where you live (and as you havent made up your mind on what car you'd like) maybe you should attend a meet. I'm sure a lot of people will be happy to give you a ride round in a westcoast, 1.1 etc. As your bro has a corsa you can make comparisons and make your mind up so you know your not wasting your pennies on something your not happy with. You may even be be fortunate enough to find someone who would be willing to come with you to see a potential saxo, they might be able to judge whether the model is clapped out or a beauty

Just keep an eye on ebay and autotrader (and here!). Then you may eventually find something that appeals

Nope my own insurance, with Quinn DIrect, will be £500 at the end of the month but that will be with 2 yrs NCB and i've only been driving about 3 weeks! hehe

If it's your first car i'd say to get a westcoast as a VTR will be harder to insure and might be a little bit too powerful if your not too experienced

    Good luck!

Didn't actually try the full comp ;P

Yea, westy looks awsome, i really like it now also furio looks similar but don't know much about them. i have about £2k in the bank, for car and insurance, i don't have a job atm but i want one, the faster i get one the faster i could get a car/mod it - i must say the vtr, west coast look so good when lowered!

Furio is just basically the face lift model....mark1 is westcoast mark2 is furio...

i would start of with a westcoast imo and spend the rest on modding it!
  38. #38
Well thanks for all the help/info any advice is appreciated!
  39. #39
Yeh defo go for a Westcoast, not being Biased or anything !!
  40. #40
lol, i really love the look of them now!
  41. #41
    get either

just dont buy one for the sake of buying one

take your time and dont buy the first one you see for the sake of it cause it cud be a shitter
  42. #42

Don't worry i won't ill be doing more research and i will also have to wait until something in my area comes up

How are the cars anyway reliability etc? I heard that some saxos rattle alot etc? I know clios are very reliable and not much goes wrong with them...what i have heard so far anyway...
  44. #44
if you look after it it will be fine

if you rag and abuse it, forget it
  45. #45
Ok I know someones going to track me down and shoot me for sayin this but if I had only just passed my test and was lookin to find a Cheap, Small engined, Insurance friendly, Mod'able Hatch

I would seriously think about a K11 Micra (Mk2) 1.3, cheap to run, insure, wont break and the 1.3 is a Twin cam 16v lump and is proper nippy.

    take alook here

    http://www.micrasport.com/prodtype.a...cordPosition=1

There is plenty of stuff you can buy for it, can you imagin gettin done at the lights by a Micra :-) Yep be worth buyin one just for that fact alone.

There is so much stuff for these little cars because they rally them.

Thing is after a year or two you could probally afford to get a 1.4 Furio.

Not that I have anything against base models and I dont want people to fink 'He's go a S, Hes up his own arse' (Im not) I just think compaired to each other the Micra is a better prospect.

Check insurance on a 1.3micra and a 1.1 Saxo or 106 and see how they compair
  46. #46
Also Try www.elephant.co.uk for insurnace I find them pretty cheap.
  47. #47
Thanks for the info, i already drive a micra 1.1 16v - it is so very basic, very loud at high speeds ( engine noise ) and doesn't handle well. I agree it can be nippy for a 1.1 but near 80mph it vibrates and your arms feel all wired

And the shape, I don’t really like it - bubble(ish) they are also thought as the most embarrassing car, as said on top gear . In saying that we have had it for years and not much at all has gone wrong

    Loving the advice!
  48. #48
lol, they actually look nice with some body kit on them! Never thaught i would say that
  49. #49
Didnt relise you was already driving asummed you was lookin for your first car.

Fair point about the looks (athought any car will look better decked including Micras) Best thing to do is compair insurance on the Corsa B, Fiesta Mk3orMk4 Cilo Phase1 maybe Phase2 and Phase1 Saxo's/Series1 106s see what come out cheapest to insure then see what you like thats in your budget :-)
  50. #50
get a vtr insurance was cheaper on that for me at 18 than a furio...... i pay £1400 fully comp
  51. #51
Tbh matey your on a saxo forum, we are all going to give answers that are biased towards Saxo's lol. Look at 106 quicksilvers, they are tidy enough to and insurance won't be massive

Go out and test drive as many as possible you will feel what car is best for you

  54. #54
Oh and should i be giving rep points for help or something? As you know im new and don't know much about them
  55. #55
£1400 isn't much lol, some people pay £2800 lol. Give me rep and only me rep
  56. #56
you can give good rep to people for helping out yep

and bad to people if they are being out of order etc
  57. #57

I got answers to questions i didn't know and found out more about them which re-assured my decision

Thing is also, Ive mad this mistake once or twice and found out the hard way.

If you see a car you like, see if there are parts for it and not just servicing parts but performance parts, Last thing you want is a car you cant do anything with as you will be more inclined to get rid of it for something else.

    Good luck
