Kent Camshafts...

  1. #1
Hi, i was on www.larkspeed.com and was looking at the camshafts and came came across these two.

    Blacktop (Non rolling)
    http://www.larkspeed.com/index.pl?p=391CT11&a=i

    Silvertop (Rolling type)
    http://www.larkspeed.com/index.pl?p=391CT3040&a=i

The prices were £399 for the non-rolling type and £215 for the rolling type.
Just wondering why the Rolling type is so much cheaper???

Power Band 2000>6500 - Rolling rocker
Power Band 2000>6000 - Non rolling

    Thanks,

    Jamie

I think the only reason for this could that the non roller is for the old black top mk1 engine and not many of these are about these days but there is plenty of sales on the rolling rocker type as thats generally the mk2 engine and probably buy more of them

Hmm i just got an e-mail back from Larkspeed...They said its because they supply hydraulic lifters with the kit for the blacktop as the silvertops already have them

well i was just having a stab in the dark but thats alot for lifters i think gmc do follower kits for less than a £100
  5. #5
Oh rite, maybe theres another reason as well then...

No i was wrong the lifters are alot in gmc why dont you get a piper if you need the non roller type i didnt get any followers for myn the standard ones are fine ive been told on more than 1 occassion by good tuneing garages

not sure what the hydraulic lifters would make a difference really or what they are even for ask them a few more questions for the reasons to why you need hydraulic lifters and what it will do to help performance

Yeh it does, i wouldnt mind getting one. Just the re-map going to cost a bit! What sort of gain would this camshaft produce?
  10. #10
without re-map not alot if any mate and your looking 400-450 for re map
  11. #11
Ye would re-map if i got a new camshaft....
  12. #12
I got a remap done for £290 plus vat at automark in stokesly teeside im currently running around 120bhp have a few little things i need to sort and possibly will be running a hell of alot more maybe close to 130 as i still need to get some fueling issue's sorted also he was going to tweak my valve timing aswell
  13. #13
is that closer than mancester from cambridge
  14. #14
Id say your atleast a 3.5 hour drive from teeside and probably around a 2 hour drive to manchester
  15. #15
    manchester it is

you can get them without the lifters if you get a catcam or a piper cam, cost is around £250ish iirc
blacktops take cams well as the valve springs are much harder so can deal with higher rev limits better, just adjust the clearances to what the cam maker specifies.

i fort that was a mif about the valve springs
  18. #18
no it's not, blacktops have better springs than silvertops. fact
