Glow Worms

  1. #1
Ok ive noticed that when my engine is warmed up and i'm priming the engine to start the GlowPlugs light stays on for bloody ages. Back when it was working normally the Glowplug light would usually bog off after about a second (which makes sense as the engine is nice and warm).

Its fine at cold, usually pops off after about 3 secs.

Just wondering your thoughts as I've never had to deal with or know how the glowplugs would 'fail'.

    Is it a sensor?
    is the glowplugs?
Am I whine for no reason?
Do people know the cost for replacements?

correct way to test is to use a multimeter with an current measuring loop attachment- hang loop round the mian wire going to glow plugs --it should read approx 80amps when you turn on --if 60amps --then one is gone --40amps 2 are gone ,etc .failing this just replace them all. its what a garage would do--replace them all at same time
if car starts from cold as it should and not on 3 cyls--then its probably the control unit that is playing silly buggers--quite expensive --so if it starts fine from cold wait till it doesn,t -it won,t be any more expnrsive to fix then

glow plugs are way more than spark plugs ad. You could be looking anywhere from £5 to £15 plus vat each!!

With glow plugs, you don't have to replace all 4, but if you don't know when they were changed last, i'd get a set to be on the safe side!
