i've just been offered a vts engine with 46k on the clock, i have a mk1 vtr 98 but the engine is from a mk2 vts 01. would it even be possible to transfer the engine to my car or is it way too much hassle? thanks!

#2yeah its possible but I beleive youll need a different ECU which may mean you gotta splice your wiring from what ive heard?
+++ your gonna need good brakes. -
#3entirely possible, in fact i'm doing the same conversion. you will need- the ecu unlocked (easier than getting the ignition barrel etc), the vts top radiator hose (bottom one too if using vts radiator, but possible to use the vtr rad), vts ecu side engine mount, and the wiring will need cut and shut at the multi-plug but this is fairly easy.
^^and vtr brakes are the same as vts so current ones will be fine. pm me if you need any more help. -
#4well VTR doesnt have ABS, but that prob wont bother you...
-
#5disks pads and calipers are the same size though
although entirely worthwhile upgrading to 206 gti or 306 gti-6/xsara vts brakes depending on what size wheels you are running.
-
#6ABS sucks IMO. I dont want a computer telling me when to brake on a track!
And I cant stress enough how much you could do with the engine mount. -
#7I like my ABS. It only cuts in when the wheel has properly locked up, never had it come in and interfere otherwise.
Can't see why you need to cut up the wiring, may as well just bung all the VTS wiring and clocks in -
#8you dont need to cut the wiring, only if you are using the 3 plug ecu and loom. which is a complete waste of time when you can use the single plug ecu and loom which will make the conversion a straight swap.
you can also use the vtr bottom rad hose on vts rad but it will need a few inches chopped off. vts rad hose is also £20 more than vtr hose from citroen. -
#9also, with it being a 3 plug ecu engine, you'll need to block off the hole in the side of the head, a small plate wil do this fine.
-
#10im not exactly what you'd call an expert when it comes to engine conversions, that's why i'm asking. if i used the single plug ecu, would this not need remapping etc as it would be for my vtr?
-
#11eh? you need to use the ecu for the 16v engien and use a single plug ecu with matching loom and sensors.
-
#12yeah thats what i thought, its just when i read the bit about using the single plug ecu i assumed you meant the one off my vtr. i must have read it wrong. what sort of price do you do the engine conversions for williamsvts?
-
#13£150 + travelling. not sure when i could get the time to do it. if i get my new job will have time to do it any week. will know by next week hopefully.
-
#14right mate i'll keep you updated anyway coz i might be needing your help! even if its only to say oh shit where does this bit go? if i do get it fitted though i might be taking you up on a set of the gti-6 brakes. do you reckon its worth doin the engine conversion cost/performance wise?
-
#15yeah, its the best way of increasing your performance for what it costs. you can easily do it for under £1K.
