Throttlebodies....

Hi people, im gettin pretty bored with performance of my vts, and have been thinking about cams and even better getting some throttle bodies fitted.I've tried researching and reading posts about throttle bodies but there doens't seem to be any good info about them.

Ive spoken to a local performance tuner called Pro-tech performance in Preston who specialise in this sort of stuff. Ive asked one of the guys there if people were pleased with the results but i thought id ask you guys as im sure you'll know about them or perhaps know someone who has got them fitted.

Just after some info on like performance, reliability, insurance and
any other recommendations on a company to go with, any problems, fuel consumption, your car spec, what to get or what not to, daily driving etc. (Sorry for so many questions)

I know im not likely to get my money back when/if i come to sell the car but I would love to be one of the few saxo owners who have throttle bodies. Or do i just go down the line of cams and ported and polsihed head. The guy at Pro-tech said come up wid a realistic budget and he'll see what he can do for me. Any info would be much appreciated.

P.S. The spec of the car at the moment is milltek manifold, milltek de-cat, peco cat-back exhaust and BMC filter.

    Cheers Tom

if your going to go TBs, you need to think about how mad you want to go, as you will need to get the stand alone mapped in one go, you dont want to fit them with cams, only to then decide you want a big valve head, forged pistons and rods, and solid lifters etc...

the things with tbs they allow you to run more lairy cams and prevent scavaging of each cylinder. fuel consumption can be fine with tbs ive been informed, however the noise makes you want to boot it alot, so will drink fuel.

your looking at a fair few K for a decent set up, but the NOISE

insurance on tbs will be interesting depending on who you go with, and a fair few users do use the car for road use often.

your better off just going for a set of catcams 708s which will give you 160 bhp max, usually around 157bhp.

and you wouldnt be one of the few saxo owners. on sax-p there may not be many but i know of several

comes down to money mate. you could get a set of cams fitted and remapped and see gains nealy 160 bhp or spend another 1k to see another 5 brake and have a nice sound like ryan said, lol. or spend some serious wedge and see 180bhp

stand alone + cams --then decide if you want t/bodies
power dif once t/bodies fitted should be more than suggested by one of the posters,if done correctly+ correct cams chosen to start with

If you get TB's you have an adavantage of getting a fully remappable ECU... I have a base map for mine (which aparantly made 129bhp on a similar spec rallye) but I will get it re-mapped totally and save atleast 3 maps.... 1 for all out power!, 1 for good economy day to day driving and decent power and 1 for MOT emmisions lol!!!!... that last one might not work but then i am aloud 3.5%on pre-cat emissions. As for what you want money is your problem, more money = better setup and more power (usually) my Bike bodies are coming in at about £400 without the re-map
