3.5" Back box

Ok might be in the wrong section but Im looking for guidance, I want a stainless steel back box with a good sound and good looks, I dont want a LOUD exhaust just something with a bit more thatn the standard.

Also if someone could tell me what a cat-back system us!??? Apologies for been thick.........

A cat back is an exhaust system that goes from the catalyic converter to the back box. A good 3.5" would be a magnex mate.

I'd go with a Piper exhaust mate, the quality is fantastic, and they are louder than Magnex and Scorpion exhausts, but not too loud.

I'd agree with Dan... Magnex are louder than standard but not too ott. In my opinion, they're perfect and the 3/3.5" round ones fit the hole in the bumper very nicely.

Yeah I originnaly thought magnex... so should I save pennies and just get a back box or go for a cat-back? Whats a good price for a cat-back as I cant get a back box for £119 from larkspeed....

I'm not too sure how much cat. back systems are but to give you a general idea, I'd look at paying around £150 (max.) for a Magnex backbox and around £300 (max.) for a Magnex de-cat system. So I think you'd be looking at around the £200-£250 mark!?!

So around £250 for a cat-back magnex... are they louder than just putting a back box on the original pipe?

I wouldn't have thought so unless the pipe diameter was different.

However, if you went down the de-catted route, then it would be a lot louder and you'd also see some performance gains.

Btw, where's your cat? In the manifold? If so... a cat back system is basically a full system. You can purchase de-catted manifolds but they do come at a price.

Its a mk2 2001 VTR and the cat is on the maifold... what Im trying to decide is wether or not to fit a magnex cat-back or just a back box? There is a massive price diff. I would have thought the cat-back system would have a larger bore the full length of the pipe? Please advise?

I think it lies down to how deep is your wallet. The cat back system might see slight performance gains whilst the backbox would only give you that extra noise. A full system (i.e. cat back) would also increase your insurance premium as the majority of companies do see it as a performance enhancing modification where as a stand alone backbox is purely cosmetic.

Ok thanks mate I think that answers my Q's - some research into how much the money the insurance company is gonna relieve me of needs to be considered.
