gear ratios.....again

    right then boffins here's the question.

    If you had a ma box with the following spec:

    1st=3.417
    2nd=1.950
    3rd=1.360
    4th=1.054
    5th=0.850
    reverse=3.583
    final drive=3.444

    and you swaped out the final drive for one of 3.765:1 what would the results be? all assuming power is lets say 170@crank.

    you would shorten the ratio's

    the acceleration would be a little quicker and you'd lose top speed.

    ok, thanks for that, but can you explain a little further please?

    sorry dude.... im not following... what would you like know?

    In other words through each gear the car would accelerate quicker than before, most likely shortening your 0-60 time because the gear ratios are shorter i.e. each gear will not last as long but then it will accelerate harder as a result.

    However the top speed of your car would not be as high. You may lose a few MPH of your cars top speed.

    Does that help?

    so his car wont do 60 in second then?
