Has a 4 wheel drive saxo ever been done? Ive been thinking about it and a turbo'd 4 wd saxo would be leathal lol.
4Wd Saxo

#1
-
#2not 4wd i don't think, only rear wheel drive!
-
#34wd turbo'd vts would be nice, But a RWD turbo'd vts would be even nicer!!
-
#4if you could find a gearbox from a 4 wheel drive citroen (think they have/had a 4 wheel drive van) which would mate to the tu engine, you could attatch the transfer box and rear axle from said vehicle. How much it would cost though is anyone's guess. I know of a 4x4 fiesta turbo which was built using a cvh head and zetec bottom end, mondeo 4x4 gearbox, transfer box and rear axle with very little modification required to fit it.
-
#6there was a 4x4 ax made in europe irc...
if yo could source the box and running gear off of that it would make life easyer.
there has been a 106 4x4 done, but it was using cossie running gear etc.... with just the shell mounted with custom mounts to the chassis.
plus turbo and rwd wouldnt be good, due to the lag you get this wouldnt be much fun having a sudden punch at the rear end.
a supercharger and rwd would be more complimented to a rwd saxo imo -
#7what about the running gear from a sunny/pulsar gtir, it's not a million miles bigger than a saxo.
pete -
#8the ax 4x4 drivetrain is weak!!
no good -
#9then you have the fun of using the unreliable pular engine

cossie engines and running gear are alot more popular it seems due to the reliability of them -
#10who's saying you have to use the pulsar engine?
where there's a will there's a way mate, making some kind of adaptor plate or changing the bell housing won't be that difficalt for the kind of person who'd tae on a project like this.
pete -
#11i was saying it would be easyer to use the cossie running gear and engine as it is more reliable, and wouldnt mean you would be having custom engine mounts and bell housing etc....
-
#12cossie stuff is heavy. I almost put it in my 309 but decided on the S2000 parts instead as it weighs about half
-
#13fair enough, I mentioned the pulsar because of it's size, if you used the cosworth stuff it's coming off of a car that's conciderably longer and probably wider too, so even though you don't need to frigg about with the bell housing you would with the length and width of the kit.Quote:i was saying it would be easyer to use the cossie running gear and engine as it is more reliable, and wouldnt mean you would be having custom engine mounts and bell housing etc....
but, having said all that, I did take a technical mesurment (pidgoen steps.lol) of an integrale and decided it was well within conciderable dimentions to be used for just such an instalation. lol

#14ive seen a pulsar engine next to a saxo! i love pulsars. . . . woudnt use the engine in a sax tough. any1 thought of adding a 5turbo engine in?? i know the usual issues with 5turbos but it would keep the weight down and its a powerfull unit wen tuned and small too. . . .
-
#15i seem to remember seeing a 4wd vts about not sure what engine it had in it. it was a rally car and did o-60 in something stupid like 2.8secs. ill see if i cand find it out
-
#16cant seem to find anything on it. but i know iv seen it before. either on the net/on the tele or in a mag. it had about 350bhp and was a stripped 4wd monster.
come on someone else has to have seen it? -
#17Ive seen Cossie running gear squeezed into Mk3 Fiesta's and Mk4 Escort's which involed a Hell of a lot of work. As for the smallest 4x4 running gear Yep the Pulsa/Sunny GTiR is small but Subrau used to build the Susikui swift under licence and they cramed 4x4 runing gear in that (i Think).
Rear wheel drive would be a much simpler conversion with compaines such as Zcars, Pug1off and JamSport have done either Saxo's or 106's. Also with rear engine conversions you not limited to the size or type of engine ie Ive seen a RSturbo rear engined 106 - JamSport and a TypeR rear engined Saxo - Zcars.
Dont forget that the GroupB Rally Legend Austin Metro 6R4 - 6=V6 R=Rally 4=4wheel drive. And although the exterior hardly shared a panel with the humble Austin Metro the Interior was pretty much the same size and too fit a mid engined v6 3.0ltr beast that nearing the end of its life was pushing 400bhp anythings possable. Only how deep your pockets are!!! -
#18something worth noting is that a few years ago the F2 kit cars on Tarmac were faster than the WRC cars until rules were changed to make them use bigger restrictors.
-
#19Ive seen a 4x4 106 in gti magazine last year!
-
#20

106 Cosworth, uses sierra running gear, hubs etc. Better than a pulser setup as parts are pretty cheap and easy to get from the million sierras resting in scrappys world wide. Engine is a lot better too -
#21panda 4x4!!! hehe
-
#22easiest way would be the AX 4x4 but I think it only had about 90bhp or less. May have torque issues with that
-
#234wd is for girls!
-
#24any further thoughts on the 5 turbo engine?
-
#26i had the same idea mate i know where there a 200 bhp 5 engine and i want it!!!
-
#27Thote Id Seen One David, Nice Car The Red 106
-
#28wouldnt use the gt engine, its pretty stone age and not the most efficent or reliable.
Depends on the cost you can do it for, if you can get the engine for a few quid and fit it yourself for buttons then maybe but i wouldnt -
#29Heheheh Renault 5GTT in a Saxo, possably the worst engine ever!
Completely unreliable even in standard form let alone tuned, althought like most things in that breif moment when it is working, in that chassis its amatch made in heaven. Anywhere else complete waste of time.
If your looking for complete engine swaps reckon a 1300 Hyhiabusa engine would be better, Zcars amonst others can even turbocharge one of them!
Scary thought that.
Zcars, Pug1offs, JamSport and CarWorx are the masters at engine swaps talk to them about direct engine bay swaps or sell the family, house and the dog to fund the Turbocharged TypeR rear engine rear wheel drive conversion.
Or why not just buy a Westfield or Caterham and either have turbo'd bike engine or a Cossie YB lump? -
#30the problem with bike engines is that they are not designed to do high milleage either. A 15,000 miler bike is considered old!
-
#31Cossie YB lump in a Caterham?
This boy needs therapy
-
#32i am thinking of makeing my c2 turbo 4 wheel drive just haveing price at the minute on the box beening made i am using a 3 lander prop shaf and r/diff and shafts.Quote:Has a 4 wheel drive saxo ever been done? Ive been thinking about it and a turbo'd 4 wd saxo would be leathal lol.
-
#33I like 4wd for Rally cars and driving in snow lol. Out on the track I'm dubious as to the benifits over a well set up RWD application.
-
#34as above the ax 4x4 cant cope with the power of the 1.4Quote:easiest way would be the AX 4x4 but I think it only had about 90bhp or less. May have torque issues with that
the best way would be to use a BE box then use the transfere box from a 405mi16 4x4 and custom rear axle and prop
-
#35Citroen built and rallied the Saxo T4.
I have a copy of the parts list available if you want it in PDF. (In french) -
#37PM me your email and I'll send it to you. 2 Mb file
-
#38Have a look HERE for proof they exist
-
#394x4 fiesta RS cosworth

-
#40im sure ive seen rally cars on sky with the pug turbo engine and 4wheel drive.
mite have been the t16??
they all race on a track/circuit and the top 2 go on to the next round, there are allways saxo, 106s etc along with other rally cars. some top rally drivers in it too.
anyone know the name of the events or cars?? i have forgot lol -
#41rallycross?
-
#42That fiesta is sickening to look at though.
-
#43Tight!!
-
#44Citroen rallied a saxo 4wd.. was called the T4.
-
#45Quote:cant seem to find anything on it. but i know iv seen it before. either on the net/on the tele or in a mag. it had about 350bhp and was a stripped 4wd monster.
come on someone else has to have seen it?
theres a 106 4wd, cossie chassis cut to accomodate a 106 shell. technically cheating
