EGR Valve and Fitting Manifold

  1. #1
Right, ive got an EGR valve, what do i do with that when i fit a manifold? Does it come off? also mk2 vts has a lamba sensor in the manifold, do i need to cover that up?

and how easy is it to fit the manifold, is it unscrew and fit the new one?
  2. #2
    not sure about egr

if yours has 2 lamba sensors you need a gmc sleeve for 1

spray all maniold bolts with wd40

    remove 8 top bolts -13mm
remove lower bolts what conect to the cat -13mm (some are bigger)
remove gerbox mount -8mm allen key

then put it all back together

    get all new gaskets to

get the metal 1 for the manifold think there only a citroen job the metal ones

egr you can run without, all it does is put hot air into the inlet on start up irc.

does it just come out then mate? never looked into it too much

paul u can come up at easter when i get it put on

    as far as im aware.

ask engines on ssc as the knowlege is 10x better there.

ive known of a lot of ppl to not run them when fitting btbs etc..

as said on MSN, but it may as well be for everyones info too + im on roll tonight ... The EGR's job is to take some of the Exhaust Gas and stuff it into the air intake... this has the effect of lowering the emissions through the exhaust.

Take it off, in theory should see a slight gain in performance as there is slightly lower temp air going into the cylinders and increase in emissions.

i've took egr valves off other cars when fitting manifolds but not a vts as mines an early mk2 so didnt have it to remove. on the other cars i had to make a blanking plate to block the egr feed hole on the cylinder head, or you could also tap a thread into the hole and then use a bolt to blank it off

id allready stated it just puts manifold gas into the intake

You could always leave it on. Never bothered to remove mine as I love mother nature. No probs fitting a manifold otherwise.

Im actually suprised my Smog monster doesnt have an EGR valve - unless its just hidden...

What happens if you dont remove the egr valve when you have fitted a 4-2-1 mani??

Nothing - the EGR continues to do its thing.
  16. #16
Iv fitted my manifold today left the egr valve on. . .. And i just got told i should ave taked it off coz it will melt with the heat! Even tho my mani is heatwrapped!

OH and anyother thing how much is a gear linkage the bottom one?? Theres light play in mines, I want it done asap! dont like hanging anything wrong with my car.

    Rough price
  17. #17
Never heard of it melting before? The standard manifold does have a heatshield, but if your new one is heatwrapped I doubt you've got anything to worry about.

When you remove the egr valve wahat goes in place of the hole in the side of your engine?

Obviously you cant just leave it
  19. #19
You need a blanking plate - a lad on here sells them, or you could just make one yourself from a thin sheet of alu. If you're removing it, there's also a load of pipework and the pump itself in the passenger side wheel arch.

    Did u remove yours?
  21. #21
Standard manifold on mine mate. I'd just leave it on - more hassle taking it off tbh.
  22. #22
Whats the guys name who selling the blanking plates??
  23. #23
To clarify, it's not an EGR valve, it simply pumps fresh air into the exhaust side of the head to aid with cold start emissions or some rubbish.

Personaly I'd just leave it on. My car never seems to have idled as well in the first minute or so since removing it. Placebo effect perhaps, but for the sake of the extra 2Kg it weighs, may as well leave it in place.

the 'EGR valve' has nothing to do with the manifold.

and it wont be your gear linkage, it will be the pin where it attaches to 1 of the selectors on the g'box, you will need to knock the pin out, drill the hole bigger and fit a split pin.

It is not an Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve. There is no recirculation of any sorts. It's simply a small pump with an air feed attached to it and some sort of diaphragm valve connecting it to the head

thats why i put the ' ' , what is the real name then? writing out its description every time you take about it is a bit long.

i just fitted a head form a single plug ecu car to mine, and junked all the shit.

Haha yeah wasn't having a go or anything dude.

Dunno what it's called, probably Emissions Assistance Valve or something. So are you gonna be going from a 3 plug to single plug ECU or just using a single plug head?
  28. #28
my original head cracked, so i just put a head on from a single plug and binned the 'egr' shit.
