Front Suspension Legs and Brake lines

  1. #1
    Couple of quickies (I hope)

Firstly does anyone know if theres a proper easy method to undo these metal collars on the front legs? They are supposed to unscrew but unfortunately they are seized

Also does anyone know if Citroen stock these brake lines/cables and if so how much? Ive tried looking online but ive had no luck

    Theyre from the rear axle

the collar ahs a proper removal tool however a large stilson (sp) wrench usually does the trick no bother.

Not sure if citroen stock the lines

i doubt citroen would stock them they would probley make them like most gargages do

might be worth getting length of pipe then asking a garage to make that length and then you bend it to how it goes will be cheaper then citroen

the lines could be fabricated yourself mate, You can buy a roll of copper brake pip from brown bros/partco and some male/female ends. While your there get a brake pip flaring tool, they cost a hundred quid but well worth the cash if u ever have to replace any more brake pipes.

from the looks of it, a set of water pump pliers mite free that collar off ( a big set)

Most manufacturers dont actually stock brake pipes, i know we dont, just bend a roll to match the old one.

    hope this helps

Nice one, thanks for the quick replies gents. My main bother is the metal collar, i dont have anything myself that can remove them so ill take them to the local garage tomorrow.

Brake lines/cables are all ok really, but ill look into it.

THe metal collar can easily be removed using a set of stilsons.... or if youdont have them, stand on the strut and hammer a screwdriver into the little holes, to twist the cap. Dont hit it too hard as you will cut into the metal.

It will only need a few cm of travel before you can remove the colalr by hand.

As for the brake lines... Citroen will probably not have them in stock, but will get them in a day or two.

I recently bought some front ones from citroen and also had some made at a local motor factors as Citroen had to order them (im impatient).

The motor factor ones cost about £5 for the pair... the ones I got from Citroen cost only £7 for the pair and were bent in exactly the right places...

The motor factor ones will just be given to you as a straight length of pipe with the tails on...

Get to Citroen and get some ordered

Use a bigger screwdriver and bigger hammer... failing that, get someone bigger to use said tools.

    You cant argue with physics

    lol

i've had to take those damper caps off on old ax's and 106s and it took quite a few large blasts with the lump hammer to get them to come undone so i don't think screwdriver will do the job. surely someone you know has stilsons?

i hate the way bilstein don't give you the correct tool for doing their dampers, i must have done up/undone at least 20 pairs of bilstein fronts

Screwdriver/hammer should be fine for the job... Ive dont it on a few sets.

Agreed about the Bilstein retaining nut. Pain in the arse having to tighten them every year or so!!

Screwdriver and hammer still wouldnt work, i have now cracked the problem using something better and more favourable
