vts performance increase

i'm planning on increasing the performance in my vts a bit, so far i have thought that an induction kit, cat-back system, de-cat and manifold will deffinately done and will then be planning on, a set of fast road cams with correct cam gear, ported and polished head and throttle body and then possible an emerald m3dk engine managment system, remap = most definatly, will also be fitting a fast road clucth kit and b&m short shift kit.

what do people think of these plans and what do you reckon the gains will be?

spot on mate. add skimmed head to the list. gains upto 160 bhp. then wack some tbs on a later date

if its performance your after make sure it's a closed induction kit like a bmc cda or similar,

a typical k & n or pipercross will not give you the gains a closed filter will.

by way of gains a figure of 150 - 160 can be expected, however is it worth the price your paying?

the money you pay for mods and laybor plus extra fuel plus massive insurance costs it may be worth investing in a quicker base car.

hehehehe thats soo true :-)

I think most people generally stop at full exhaust, manifold, induction kit somepeople going onto cams and even a little head work, but most people with non-turbo'd cars stop (these days) at breathing mods for the main reason a NA engine cost alot to get that last bit of horsepower out of.

Not saying 150-160bhp is unreachable just saying for NA saxo's its not cheap.

Personally Id stop at breathing mods and simply invest the money in a slighty older turbo's car or switch to possably a blown saxo but you may still need a daily runaround as putting blown NA engines through daily traffic and motorway driving will take its toll and maybe begin to prove unreliable :-)

Since when was this site about full blown tuning your saxo?

If im wrong then please correct me but sax-p is a community for sharing idea's, opinions and helpful advice.

My advice would be to invest in a better car, its just an idea, i havent got a gun to his head!

I am just helping him to think about the fact that a full blown engine tune on his saxo is not the only way to have a performance increase. And being a poorly piad student i know what its like to have limited budget- thus why i gave him the idea of spending money more wisely- this is why i would recommend him not to do so paul_vtr

If he wished to have a 160bhp project i have no problem with that, and would be very interested to see the project build. However giving him advice on another route as to gain more power is what i was trying to do, thanks!

if you want to improve performance then its sometimes better to invest in uprated suspension and tuning the chassis. Often more cost effective than chasing peak bhp figures..

it doesnt matter what car i bought i would still spend my time tuning it, so why not let it be a saxo? easy to tune, fun to drive, easy to repair and fairly cheap to run adn maintain.

ideally the saxo is about the best N/A modding car out IMO! i wouldnt change it for the world unless i was going turbo. ideally you got to have a 2l car under 1100/1150kg kg to be able to thrapes a cammed vts wheather its modded or not.

a 200bhp car weighing 1100kg will be pushing out 181bhp per tonne. which is around the same as a cammed vts would. give or take a few bhp per tonne.

cars now a days are built to keep up with technology and looks so are usually heavy as fcuk. take for example the clio 172. its a 2l with 172 bhp but it weights 1050kg so only pushes out 163.8 bhp per tonne

the 182 is even heavier! so is worse bhp per tonne!

saxo is the best modding hot hatch by far!

the standard 280bhp impreza turbo only puts out around 190bhp per tonne so the ols saxo doesnt do too bad! i.e mine is pushing 186bhp per tonne!

i have thrown money at all of my cars, even my first car which was a 1.2 clio, then a 998 austin mini, then a honda civic and now i want to do a vts as they are good cars.

my next car is already planned for, which will commense in about a year and a half, and thats an rx7, i already have funds to buy and insure the rx7 so for the time being in vts fun.

and of course i will pay as much attention to the chassis, braking and handling as i would performance.
