Just had springs changed and knock knock?

Just had new springs fitted drove home about 50miles fine, but when i got to my road which has speed bumps theres a loud knock on the passenger side?

Could that be a loose ball joint something they hadnt tightened properly?

Have done mate all nice and tight.

I had this problem when i had my pug 306 lowered the same knock was there so got it home and it was either a ball joint or link rod not sure which ones which but one was loose tightened it and it was fine?

ball joint is a possibility. Just go have a good look round it and make sure everything is nice and tight. Check taht the spring is still seated as well

Dont want to take it back as its 50 odd miles away, bit risky as it knocks when you hit a bump in the road!

I think its a ball joint as they have to take them apart when changing springs right?

Could be a ball joint yeah. Take the wheels off and look for anything loose. jack the whole front up if possible and turn steering to right or left and see if there is any noise or anything seems loose. With the wheel off you would most likely notice a loose ball joint.

I would go for drop link mate. Only cheap to change about 13 quid for a new 1and fit it your self.

Yeah i thought so mate but how will i know if its shagged? It could just be that one wasnt tightened properly right?

Well i first would make sure they are tight. If they are i would just try changing it as it is the most common cause of this noise. Could always ring the place that fitted them and bill them for it see what they say.

Had ago at tightening everything on the near side today, put wheel back on went for a drive noise still there ffs! It sounds like a spring moving about? But it looks like its sitting perfect?

Just got off the phone th pug performance who fitted them and they said its either my drop links or top mounts worn, which i suppose is understandable as they've been taken off alot.....

Well my girlfriends VTS is makin theis clunkin sound but its when turning on full lock and turning at speed etc which i think is the bearing in the top mount. If yours is doing it when hitting bumps i would lean more towards the drop link.

Replace your Drop Links.

Mine has been knocking horribly for a good month or 2 now and iv scored almost every possible thing off my list. Drop links are about the last to do & iv had new ones sitting here for weeks. Finally iv booked myself some time to fix them this saturday so ill let you know how it goes. It seems to me though that most knocking noises are caused by drop links or wishbone bolts.

I have a thread kicking around about it too so ill update that with my findings too.

Hi mate how much did you pay for drop links?

Do i need one or two then as it only does it on the near side?

Sure, i got mine on eBay for under £20 for the pair i think?

Its recommended to change them in pairs because if one side is knocking theres extra stress on the other side. Since mines been left knocking for ages im definatly doing the pair of them. They are cheap enough anyway so its best just to do the pair tbh.

thoms04 had similar problems to this too & posted in my thread that the drop links sorted his too. I'll let you know on saturday anyway but i recon the links will sort your problem

mine did this once and i couldnt cure it for shit i changed, bush's balljoint and the droplink, eventually found the shock loose in the strut, jack the car up and shake the wheel as if checking for a bearing and see if you can hear a knocking from the strut leg, if you can then its most likly its happend to you too, take it to a garage and they will only charge you a 10 or 15 squids to tighten it

Cheers feller its going to my mate at citroen next week some time

All this after fitted new springs ayy and they were springs that didnt even sit that low lol i thought you get problems when lowering cars im getting problems when highiering mine haha

Havent done the drop links yet...

BUT the noise has now gone? So it was the springs wearing in right?

But why only knock from one side?
