engine upgrade list order ?

    Hi Everyone,

I just joined today and would like some help please.

Me and my sister are both getting a vts in summer and in the next few months we want to get a good understanding of the car and mods.

I have looked on the faq's section and simo has put a guide on the best way to upgrade the engine if you go the n/a route.

Could you guys suggest the best way to upgrade your engine if we want to go supercharger/turbo route in the future (so we dont buy things we dont need or will just have to replace)

    i.e. 1. Air Filter 2. Manifold. 3. Exhaust ---- to supercharger/turbo.

All your advice would be great and I look forward to being a part of the Saxperience Community.

    One more thing!

Could you guys also recommend the best parts available for each mod (performance wise)

    i.e. Pipercross Air Filter

    Thanks

i wouldnt buy anything till you do it. you will probably use different airfilter, bigger bore exhaust for turbo or s/c etc, only thing i would buy till you decide what way your going is suspension and brakes.

Or you may buy one already modded?

i would always buy standard, thats my personnel opinion though.

well most turbo cars have an open air filter due to the intercooler

so if your definatley going to turbo/supercharge it id just buy an open air filter green or k&n

no point getting an upgraded manifold as when you get a turbo you will need a new one so might aswell leave that alone unless you want to buy now and sell later GMC manifold

exhaust if your getting a turbo you would be best getting a bigger bore exhaust try get your hands on BTB from GMC there hard to come buy and are expensive but are the best

I'd always buy what I wanted, never build what you can buy. I love the illusion that all VTS that are modded are thrashed and standard ones are owned by 60 year old ladies. Called Doris

To improve performance in a engine the more air and petrol you can get in each cyclinder the more performance you Should gain so

An induction kit will get more air into the engine
A 4branch 'Performance' Manifold will get the exhaust gases out the engine quicker
And a Performance Exhaust will allow the Manifold to get the gases out quicker there by getting more gases out of the engine.

Theres abit more science behind it but thats the theroy of it really.

All Turbochargers + Superchargers do is force more air into the engine.

    Simple really :-)

its not that its been thrashed, its you dont know who carried out the mods and how well they were done. i always like a clean slate to start with, have always bought standard cars.

agree also with williams and as above the only thing you can really get is the open filter as all other bits like manifold and exhaust need to be bigger and spacific for a turbo or s/c. Also you will need different cams for a turbo or s/c so no point in getting them. IMO you'd be best getting an open filter, suspension, brakes and a KMS ready for turbo

if you intend to use forced induction I wouldn't change anything. Would be a waste of money as most would be changed.

Cheap mods to do now. The biggest change would come from a manifold.

Thanks for all your quick replies guys!

    Whats a KMS?

Can you suggest the best suspension, brakes to buy (for performance) and the best places to shop for these.

I noticed that GMC do supercharger kits - do you know any companies that do turbo kits?

A set of Koni shocks or some group N bilsteins paired with custom faulkner springs or H&R 30mm springs.

Full set of poly bushes & a 21mm or larger rear ARB.

Also upper & lower front strut braces.

As for your brakes you got entry level with a 306GTi-6 setup or more extreme going for some Willwood 4 pots or a Highspec setup.

That lot will set you back a fair bit but will be worth it when your finally boosted & nailing it round a track

I better go hide before CampDavid grills me over the suspension info, think im stepping on toes here

my standard was 22mm, you want either a 24mm or 25mm rear ARB

i can get you some larger brakes aswell.
