VTR - VTS Conversion???

  1. #1
    Hello there

im planning on converting my vtr to a vts and im wondering if you can split the wiring loom in the fuse box instead of having to rewire the car if that makes sence?

    Thanks Lpeet

If you have a mk1 vtr, (single plug ECU) and you get a single plug ECU 16v engine (early ones) you can use the same loom just change the ECU and prob worth changing the sensors to.

Likewise if you have a mk2 vtr (3 plug ECU) you need to find a later 16v engine in order to use the same loom.

    I hope that makes sense.

Yes mate i have a mk2 vtr with the 3 plug ecu so i take it i need a mk2 vts engine to i coan use the same loom?

what if the vts engine is a mk1 and my vtr is mk2! will i have to rewire the hole car?
  5. #5
You will have to re-wire it as some of the connections are totally different.

just the engine bay, ideally you want to find the correct number of plugs in the 16v ecu to make it dead easy.

something am goin to do when my vtr engine goes! mk2 but with single plug ecu, what are better engines the ones with 3 plug or 1 plug ecu's?

thanks lads im doing a conversion as my vtr engine has packed up! think ive bent a valve! ive got a mk1 vts engine with wiring loom so ill drop it in and see hows it goes!

    Wish me luck!

single plugs seem to respond better to tuning for some reason. you can fit a later engine into an early vtr by splicing the later vts loom into the early vtr multi plug (as i'm doing). very time consuming but quite straightforward-ish, and it's also better to use the vts engine fusebox but if you dont you just splice the wires into the vts loom.

Youll need a vts ECU to!

Various theorys about which are better and the only real difference are when people cam them and the single plugs usually get 2-3 bhp more.

so wats the worst senario ive got a mk2 vtr and a mk1 ta engine what will i have to change! Sorry im getin a little confuse?

    mk1 vts engine*

sell the mk1 vts engine and buy a mk2 engine from tam (axo16v) on ssc, that way it's just a case of the loom plugging straight in.

it doesnt matter what year engien you use, its the ecu that makes the difference. people seem to get confused with this. aslong as you ecu, loom and sensors match up you wont need to do any chopping.

my ecu loom and sensors match up, but with it being an early mk2 vts engine in a mk1 vtr the multi plug doesnt plug in, hence the chopping.

it doesnt matter about engine though,, thats what im saying. you need to get the loom to match your car and the sensors/ecu to match that. they will go on either early or late engine. get what im saying now?

oh aye i know that, i'm talking about if you buy an engine complete and use the ecu and loom which comes with it, as i have.
