To cam or not to cam?

   Need some advice from people that know what there talking about.....
   
   As some of you may know my saxo vts mk2 is leaking oil, the crank shaft oil seal and head gasket seal need replacing
   
   The cambelt has already been done so this sort of sucks tbh as the cambelt will need to come off and most say change to get to the crank shaft oil seal! As its all going to be off should i wack some uprated cams in there at the same time?
   
   Im looking for good power gains, i know that different cams work differently but what would be the best set for me?
   
   Would i notice much difference in performance if i didnt remap straight away?

   Not much point if you can't remap.

   as above, you be looking at 2-5 bhp without a remap. so it would be better to only get them if your going to get a remap imo

   I would remap some where down the line.... But not right away, only thinking of doing the cams as everything will be off AGAIN anyway!
   
   I have all the breathing modds there aswell ie, full system, decat, 4-1 manifold and enclosed induction kit.

   i would go for it them mate as if you decide to get them fitted later on down the line then it will mean stripping everything down again, if you get them and your fuelings not right then as a qucik fix you could get an FSE Valve just to put you on

   wouldn't see that much of a gain....... if any at all, chances are you will probably loose power depending on what cams you choose!
   
   also were going to need a bit more info mate, i.e will it be a daily driver, track car, etc! also wwhat other mods do you have! with the right mods to accompany the cams you could see around the 150bhp mark mate!

   If you can afford it then do it but it depends how soon you can get a remap done?

   i drove mine for over 6 months without a remap, it will be fine mate to fit them and get it mapped later, you just wont see ther full potential till then.

   S34MER i dont use my car to get to work, i guess i only use it when i want to, if you know what i mean? So what cams would you say?
   
   The modds i have are....
   
   Magnex full system, with abp center section without silencer
   Decat
   4-1 manifold
   Raceland enclosed induction kit
   bm quick shift
   
   
   Those modds are good modds right ^^
   
   Dan as Williams said he drove his for 6months after without a remap so should be fine right, but yeah i do realise i will not get its full potntial untill it has had a remap!
   
   How much is a remap, rough price? £400?

    £450ish. i took a mapped ecu down with me, got the map off that swapped onto mine then just had mine tweaked so only cost me £350

    I wouldnt bother personally, better to get it all done properly together.

    wont do it any harm to fit them first. i done 2 trackdays and 1 1/4 mile day within theb6 months of mine being unmapped.

    Yeahh a re-map is usually around £400 some places will do them cheaper some will charge a little more, so shop around! camming your car without a re-map shouldn't harm it i don't think, in fact im pretty sure it won't! If you want big gains whack a set of catcams 708 in there, you will see big gains with these cams and the mods you have will compliment them well!

    Catcams 708s you say, how much do they go for?
    
    If i fit them and get it remapped when i have the cash, what sort of power will i be looking to have? 150-160bhp?

    well stevenixon has:
    
    PiperX Viper Induction kit
    GMC Throttle Bodies
    708's Cams
    supersprint 4-2-1
    Powerflow Straight through 2" exhaust system
    Decat
    port & polished head
    
    and he's running 163bhp so that will give you some idea, obviously your not running TB's and don't have a port and polish or decat, but i still reckon you will make 150 bhp mate!

    Cam that bad boy!one thin at a time no point strippin it again, friends vtr had extra 9 bhp at wheels before remap and thats jus a single cam shaft!

    must have some shit headwork to only be running that power.
    
    decent headwork and 708s should see 170bhp.
    
    i take it he is running a 180trumpet in box set up to be running a pipercross shitper... should change that to with that set up to a procomp/green.
