black and silver rocker cover

could someone please tell me what the difference is between a vtr with a black rocker cover and one with a silver one?

black rocker cover (blacktop) had non-roller rockers, the cat under the car, single plug ecu and 90bhp. then came the early silvertops, cat under the car, roller rockers, single plug ecu and 90bhp. then the later silvertops (x-reg after september 2000), these had cat in the manifold, 3 plug ecu and 98bhp.

is there any actual difference in the 90 bhp silver top and the 98 bhp silver top engine or is it the ecu that gives the extra bhp?can the 98 bhp ecu be put into 90?

no, cat is in the manifold on the 98bhp people say you wont notice the difference on the road but you do. i raced on an airfield straight drag race and the 98bhp beat me, but i did have my gf in the car aswel, but when i took my back seats and stuff out on a rolling start in 2nd gear i beat the 98bhp

its easier and cheaper to mod a 90bhp aswel! as to de-cat a 98bhp you need to change the manifold and by mot time put the standard one back on. also if you look on sites exhaust systems are always cheaper for the 90bhp!

also according to parkers (talk shit at times) if you drive them both the same you are meant to get better mpg out of the 98bhp but my mate with a 98bhp gets roughly the same.

i think also the 98bhp have different cams or something.... dont quote me on that though. oil dipstick etc is in a different place.
