Confused - manifold / downpipes question

  1. #1
My mechanic friend is doing some work on my car - head gasket went the other day - long story, so wont go into detail here - but ANYWAY......

Over the weekend he has taken the head off, and told me I need a new manifold, cos mine has split when he took it off. I knew it was blowing, but n ow it definitely needs replacing!

Question is - when buying a manifold, does this and the downpipes come as one complete section? If I'm looking at buying a new manifold, do I need to decided whether I want 4-2-1 or 4-1 and if so, which should I go for?

I've looked through the engine section, and have read loads about it, but haven't found exactly the info I need.

for a vtr go for a 4-1 as this improves top end performance, the vtr already has decent low and mid range as standard. you only need the manifold nothing else.

Thanks for that Sean. But my real question is, do the downpipes and manifold come as one section? Or is it possible to get the manifold on its own? Am I making any sense? (I'm assuming the manifold is simply the flat section which connects to the engine, with the downpipes connecting to the manifold???)

No the manifold and downpipe come as one peice connecting to your cat (or de-cat) assuming it was not in the original manifold

i see what you mean, it all comes as one part
