Exhaust Sticks Out

Hi all

Just got a quickie I hope. Just bought a new Magnex exhaust fitted it and it sticks about 2 inches out. It seems thats as far as it will go in.

Any tips on getting it in a bit further?

I havent got one but it seems they dont sit all that flush as it is anyway - I could be wrong.

Take a look at these Magnex back boxes how do they compair to yours?

Was your OE system fitting ok before?
Mite be worth a quick trip to a exhaust shop just to see if the joins are going all the way down (if you know what I mean)

By the looks of it some are more flush than others.

Still reckon your best bet is just to get the joins checked :-) Got nothing to lose

they do stick out a bit, the easy way is to get the tailpipe taken off, cut from the end and re-welded.. shouldnt cost more then £10-£20

Bit extreme, I would have personally said take a bit out of the pipework.

But either way the back box will have to be off the car, a profersional custom exhaust shop or decent garage should be able to do either one, or stick with it untill you fancy a change then just sell it on when you have a replacement, after all if your happy with the exhaust note and performance it could probally wait. Plus give it time and you mite not even notice it after a while

If u take a bit off the pipe which connects to the mid section, the back box will sit further back and the hangers will need to be re-welded.

its easier to just to cut the tip to required size (the inside bit attatched to the back box)

Is it a cat back system you have or just the backbox?

I thought most people have either the centre section or the end of the back box cut shorter.

my magnex sticks out a little bit and at an angle

easy to position it closer in, just loosen the bracket where it attatches to the centre section and slide it further one, and re tighten. I also found that the standard rubber hangers were stretching too much, so i got some halfords hangers and all is good. I'll take some pics tomorrow to show you, mine only sticks out about 1 inch and is in the middle of the cut out.

I have the same problem mate, mines a full system me and a mate tried our hardest to push the back box and center section together but it just wont go any more there fore it sticks out more than it should!

Best thing to do if you cant push it together any more like me, is to get it cut, only about an inch off, either at the backbox pipe or center section pipe....

that look ok to me, especialy when you concider that were talking an off the peg item and not a custom pipe. IIRC technicly speeking the end of the exhaust tip should be level with the most sticky out bit of the bumper. (and yes, "sticky out" is a technical term)

If you look at the picy that Chrisgt11 posted of his green car the most "sticky out bit" is the black un-painted part of the bumper just below the lights, so as viewed from the side of the car, if it's in line with that bit it's correct.

Reason it should be like this "technicaly" speeking is that it "should" prevent any exhaust gas from coming back into the cabin by way of air flow over the rest of the car.

the way i got mine to sit better was to force it on. lye on teh floor against a wall and put your foot on teh tail pipe, then push as hard as you can.

thanks for the help guys i'm gonna try pushing it down a bit more if that don't work i'll get the angle grinder on it and cut the f***er off.(not really i'll go garage)

mine sat in a nice position when it was on my vtr, i now have it on my vts and its sticks out a few inches more.
im going to try mr williams technique when i get some tim, failing that it will probs lop half and inch or so, of the back end of the mid section.
mite just take it to the local powerflow and get them to sort it, lol feel like a bit of a lazy get at the moment

i have to be carefull when doing mine as the centre silencer will hit off the bottom of the car again due to that ghey manifold

But is dead centre so it doesnt bother me much

I prefer mine sticking out actually as I suspect if it was flush the exhaust fumes/smoke would start to stain the bumper and with mine being de-catted there is definatley fumes/smoke stains already on the rim of the exhaust.

Its a full de-cat back (Mongoose) married up with a Raceland 4-2-1 (heat wrapped), it was bought job lot & I'm sure for that reason it all fits well and sits correctly at the back.

doesnt stick out that much imo....... think i might just save and get a proper abp magnex centre to match it as my manifold has moved my exhaust system to the left!

You would of thought the GMC 4-1 would be a better fit & not alter the fitting position of the CAT etc... Stainless can be bend slightly but its a lot of effort.

Pretty sure the abp magnex centre section is not a magnex but another manufacture (might be wrong), think its cunning marketing on the part of abp...

only wanted one as no silencer to knock off the car, just nipped home got my cat through the door!
