Standalone ECU to work with 3 plug

  1. #1
Can anyone name me an ECU that will be a stright fit onto a 3 plug vts loom please, rather than having to get a single plug adaptor and re-wire it to fit the 3 plug. Just need something that would run cams and breathing mods, cheers

i think youll be fine with just having the standard ecu remapped if your only going for cams mate!
  3. #3
^^^Agreed, if you are planning TB's or turbo conversion then a standalone is the way forward. For breathing and cam mods get your ecu remapped
  4. #4
TB's maybe a future option, or may go down s/c t/c route, so would prefer to go with standalone, plus ive been told 3plug ecu's dont like standard ecu being remapped

why not get a vts conversion first? easy bhp gain for the price
  6. #6
this will be a vts engine the cams are going in, trying to figure out what works with what etc, as im deciding to either go down t/c vtr route, or cammed vts

supercharge your vtr, i have done it and its alot more fun to drive plus the power delivery is alot smoother therefore nicer to gearbox etc.
I am also in the same prob as you with regards to ECU as mine is the 3 plug type but think am going to run mf2 and sigcon as i already have them.

I seem to remember reading John at gmc will make you a loom to fit standalone to a 3-plug, maybe best giving them a phone. As to just remapping the standard ecu, standalone is always better, especially when you take price into account the standalone only costs an extra few hundred. And if you intend taking the car past the usual cams and breathing mods route then getting standalone now is 100% the way to go.

so all standalones for 3plug are all custom jobbies atm??? to fit to the loom i mean?
  10. #10
as stated contact john about adaptor looms.

i can give you info via pm as im not allowed to make statements on here according to forum rules

how much would it cost to have a standalone ecu modified to fit a 3plug?
  12. #12
i know carworx fitted a KMS to a 3 plug VTS and i know GMC do it as i was speaking to John the other day about it but didnt get an accurate price.
The only way to know is phone them up and ask but its gonna be around £1000-£1100 fitted

crap thats alot lol hmm will have to have a think i guess, might take a small loan out maybe if possible and go for original idea of turbo'ing my vtr
  14. #14
i would seriously consider a supercharger for the vtr as an alternative to the turbo. have you had a look at GMC's website? got a good price list and alot of information.
  15. #15
would consider supercharging except to buy supercharger alone is £1320, im getting full turbo setup for that price, hence why going for that option. gonna speak with tam from ssc aswell see if hes got any low mileage vts single plugged engines available

    fair enough

If you going to mod any car in more than one stage ,remappin std ecu will work out more expensive byt the time you have done it twice or more and you will not get the same result -,
and yes 3 plug ecus do not like being messed with
If anybody wants a 3 plug adaptor loom made --find an old ecu to rob the socket from to start with--not obtainable anywhere at any price
single plug is such an old design that is why they are available
we only make looms for systems we supply--it is done as a service -we don,t make money on them -too time intensive
