Can my catalytic converter break inside?

   Im having engine problems with my car. It sounds really restricted with its breathing. Is it possible for the inside of the cat to break away and clog up the manifold? Its a Mk2 VTR so the cat is on the maifold.

   the cat can brake up and can cause some blockage normally going the otherway down the exhaust not up into the cat. get under neather the car a hit the cat with the palm of your hand if its broekn up you should hear it rattle or iff not remove it and look. its a common problem that i used to see alot in the garage

   if its collapsed, shudnt it start to make a nasty smell
