what do you plan on doing

a full flush or just a top up

i think 5.1 isnt reccomended the one down from it is though

(cant be assed to go look in the garage lol )

I read somewhere that dot 5.1 is glycol, but dot 5 is silicone - you wouldn't want to get the wrong type.

sure them on ssc said i want 5.1

    its high performance stuff

    flush system im guessin

yeah u want 5.1 its non silicone based high perfomance, i used the halfords stuff and its fine are you bleedign the whole system?
  6. #6
not sure yet, just thinking about buying some!

how much wil i need for the whole system? or would it be better to just top it up?
  7. #7
depends when it was done last

if your capable of doing it then flush it just for peice of mind

is this for when u change the hoses? you should realy do a full fluid change when doing it rahter then jsut letting the air out and topping up as i wouldnt wana cut corners on teh brakes for sake of a few quid. i used 1 and a half bottles doing a full flush but then i did let alot through to make sure it was clear so u migth get away with one botle. its £9.99 a bottle

    one 500ml bottle?

does it matter on the manufactor of the fluid? just as long as its 5.1?

I think the gain with expensive, performance dot 4 or dot 5.1 is that it can operate at a much higher temp - you're car's a diesel right? would you really get any benefit from paying a lot on brake fluid?... just a thought, I'm no expert.

the bottles in halfrods were 1L mate, in my experience the manufactures dont realy matter from what i have used in cars in the past as they have felt no different as they all conform to the same industry standards, obviously if u gona hammer the brakes all the time constantly then a higher heat range would be better which some of the btter makes might offer but 5.1 is allready performance fluid
