This could well have been done - I have no reson to take a side here..believe or disbelieve..
End of the day Who Gives a Flying Fcuk....
It could well have been remapped ok but I dont know the ins and outs of what programme has been run etc etc...
But like it says, ok a backbox and filter wont do a lot, possibly might even loose some BHP, as an open filter will get hot which wont be as good as cold air for the car to suck in - the stadard air box would have worked as a cold air feed as it is an enclosed system and unless you just want a sporty noise I would recommend to keep the stadard airbox and buy a replacement K&N/Pipercross etc panel filter to replace the restrictive factory one. I would also rig up a better cold air feed into the airbox - It would have more gains than an open K&N, Im almost certain..
The exhaust which is a 4" Sportex one gives a nice note, my VTS had one when i bought it. This may be a little less restrictive than the stadard one and could possibly give a little bhp more..
As has been mentioned the owner, who i know, is a Qualified Lorry Mechanic and works with DAF Lorries.
Obviously he has access to computers which are high spec top of the range ones.. If he had the software or was able to get it on one of those work computers then why not try and 'tweek' the ECU and try and get that bit more out of the car?
However it says it was remapped to make the engine think it was a '1.4' but goes onto say he had trouble with the ECU so had to set it back to standard...Now that makes me believe it may have been remapped (although back to standard now after problems) because you will have problems if you dont have full breathing mods such as exhaust system, enclosed induction etc because a 1.2 engine is not designed to suck in as much air asa 1.4, ports and inlets etc will be different sizes and an engine drawing in too much air into the throttle body with few mods will not run right and consequently be most likely slower and more sluggish because it cannot run how it has been set to (the remap..) hence why it now says in a post that it was put back to standard...
Hope that makes some sort of sense but to be honest I bored of hearing about this...
