lowering pros & cons

The 1st advice as a newbie (last week) was "slam" it down 40mm, now I live in an area with loads of speed bumps, will this cause lots of probs if I have it lowered?

I've just gone down 35mm and the deepish sleeping policeman style bumps are a piece of cake but some of the other speed bumps can hit the exhaust clamp if I go over them entirely. Those small speedbumps that most cars can drive straight over with out a wheel touching them!

should I drop 30mm to be safe?

    - Will handle better
    - Will look better
    - Wont be a problem over speedbumps lowered 40mm on standard wheels

Ive got wolf-race 16" alloys, would that be a prob? I think they are 16" the tyres are 195 45 R16.

you'll be free from big catching up to 40mm, I'll be getting 16's on soon so the chassis and exhaust will be a lot higher.

A lot of people say a 45 profile on 16's catch/rub in the arches but the higher alloys will see you clear most speedbumps when lowered.
