Power Gains

    90bhp Phase 2 VTR.

After fitting a gmc 4-1 manifold and a diesel centre pipe (sounds ) but that will de-cat my car, think i will see any gains at all?

Sim69er (cant remember his name) got 98.8bhp on rr with his cat-back and panel filter

Id say thats fairly realistic to me, with the BMC, 4-1 and stright through centre pipe (DeCat) you could even touch the magical 100bhp

Id be over the moon if I had a Black top and it hit 100bhp

What back box are you running now? I can remember you asking about Ashley systems and other exhausts a while back but didnt know what you finally desided on.

Ive heard of a few people fitting 106 Rallye Inlet manifolds, think that frees a pony or two. Mite be worth asking about that too :-)

I would as I believe its a straight swap as well

Yeah you should feel more responsiveness

still running standard back box, got chance to get peco 4.5" jap slash but wouldnt i loose performance with that?

how are the 106 inlets different? was going to get the throttle body ported and polished

Peco backbox will help bhp but only by about 2bhp.

what about back pressure, not an expert at all!
I thought peco were meant to be poo poo

u arnt goin get any gain from a peco back box propbabily torque losses. if u want decent gains from exhaust u want a 2.25 system. i.e ashley, powerfolw ect.

106 rallye inlets are made out of ally so can be bored out so i heard (on here ) that they need to be slightly modded to fit a sax but shouldnt cost to much
gunna be looking at about £110 just to buy the inlet in the first place tho

2" should be fine for any VTR, 2.25 may be even to big, when you start serious tuning then you need a larger bore.

i belive the pugsport system is 2" and that sees good gains.

Its hard to tell really if one type of back box will work better than another, the best way to look at it is, as long as you stay away from large bore straight through Jap cans which will reduce back pressure as it as the gases just go . . . straight through I reckon there could maybe only 2-3bhp between a good back box and a bad back box.

Your be gaining alot by decatin and fitting the new manifold so the back box is a pretty small part unless you go silly like I said and fit a open jap can.

The 4-1 will give mid to high range power gains which will be complimented by the decat and straight through centre.

If you was looking for more low down to mid range gains then a 4-2-1 and twin box exhaust would be better.

Besides its not the bhp you want its the torque's as that will make the car more enjoyable - with out torque all you'd do is spin the wheels

Once youve done the Filter & exhaust, aim for a nice set of cams and possibly a ported head...

Then get a remap and it should see a nice figure on rr

hmmmm, unless your planning to keep the car for say more than a year or possibly two I wouldnt waste the money on cams and remap as the money could be spent else where to imporve either the chassis or interior/exterior.

All depends on how far you want to go really.

only keeping the car 2 year really, not going to cam it, just got manifold tottaly sorted now, doubt be changing exhaust for a while money real tight

names simon steve lol, you may touch the magie 100bhp but like everyone says not all rollers will give out the same output (ie lads 180bhp form beather mods) but you will definatly see and increase what about a ported throttle body as my one is metal so yours should be
