green stuff brakes

im fancyin gettin sum green stuff pads for the front of the vtr, but what i realy want to know is, is it pointless getting them and running stadard disk's, the disk's are brand new not even a month old. or shall i save a bit more and get sum drilled and groved disk's

it's pointless getting greenstuff brakes fullstop mate, they're rubbish. Go for mintex or tarox. No real need to fit grooved and drilled discs if you're sticking with standard size as you'll be hard pushed to notice a difference. Also I wouldn't go for drilled as they can crack. If you're saving for an upgrade then try and raid a breakers from a 206 gti brake conversion (calipers, carriers, then buy discs and pads from www.eurocarparts.com).

do the gti brakes fit on a saxo without problems? thanks for the help mate.

206 gti brakes go straight on, even fit under 14" wheels.

well i got 15'' tsw volcs on now so clerence shud be fine, what price shud i be lookin at for a set

williamsvts on here does then for 180 delivered, you may be lucky and find a set in a local brakers for less, best to just phone around. if you're sticking with 15's you could fit the larger brakes (283mm dics) from the 306 gti-6,these fit straight on but require the calipers to be ground slightly so they don't foul the strut. they won't fit under 14's though. roughly same price for these too.

i had some green stuff on mine and they were SH*T, becasue they are intened for high powered cars such as 200sx,celicas,mr2's, etc... becasue they take time to warm up. the ones i had on mine glazed over after 3 months becasue they were braking when they wernt warm

Dont use greenstuff pads on standard disks, They will eat the disks! Have a look at some mintex 1144's or Ferodo DS2500 pads!

always thought they were good nevermind lol

ive got some mintex pads and discs to go on mine ill let you know how they perform mate

cheeres pred, when ya puttin them on?
  12. #12
I've also just bought some Mintex discs and pads.

They are getting fitted on Friday, so i'll let you know my opinion on how good they are as well mate!

I can highly recommend the Mintex 1144 range as I use them in my 6 pots!

If you are planning on upgrading your standard brake set up, definitely consider the 306 gti set up, or if you don't want the hassle of changing the callipers etc upgrade the pads to mintex and stick with standard discs.

Believe it or not the standard vented discs on saxos are miles better than most "upgraded" discs, including the EBC ones

iv just got some vented and groved discs, with green stuff pads, they were about the same price as standards so i fort ill try these out! i was going to go for drilled and groved but i heard they are prone to cracking...

i think thats what happened to my last discs lol

If you are upgrading pads and disks tho, look at getting braided lines and also some new brake fluid, somthing like motul dot 5.1.
I presume the reason for the upgrade is that you are driving harder, therefore braking harder. The new brake fluid will help!

well really i wanted the green stuff pads for the looks tbh, but i have decided i do want the brakes to be betta, so looks like im going for the mintex 1144 pads and ima stick wit my standard disk's as ive just changed them. and keep my eye out for sum gti brakes.

how much wud i be lookin at for sum decent hoses, as i dont know much about the upgrading brakes section lol
  19. #19
Should be looking in the region of £40 - £60 for a set of braided hoses!

ive got green stuff pads and brembo disks, and they seem to stop my car alright, not the best but for the money they look good and stop well when needed.

I brought my car with greenstuff pads and grooved disks on and they seem good, however I've never had the standard brakes so I don't have anything to compare them with. As said earlier in the thread their better when warm, and seem a bit 'wooden' when cold.
