would it work?

I was thinking about fitting an induction kit about £200, but thought, and this is where I need you advce.
If I took off the air filter box, and kept the air pipe that runs from the front off car to the filter box, could I then fit an open cone filter into the throttle body then direct the cold air from pipe onto cone? thus cutting down on heat soak.
This would be for a 1.4 Furio
Am I missing something basic here, please advise

thast what most people do but will still suck in hot air

if you were to fit an open filter id move it to the front of the car possibly behind the headlight if it will fit

Would I have to fit a deflector plate to stop water getting in?

as above, this was my old one

an it all it did was suck hot air in. then i got a BMC and was well impressed

    no water shouldnt get in

the place mark has it will also suck hot air in as its right above manifold

you want the filiter nehind the headlight and maybe fit a heat shield and some pipes so more cold air can get to it

Mine would be the opposite of yours, with the cone on the end of throttle body semi enclosed and pipe to front.
    thanks for pics.

If you were to do it like that, it may be less efficient as hot air will be right where the filter is..

If it causes the filter to heatup & piping your gonna be doing mroe bad than good..

Best bet is either a sealed kit or as pictured above

Thanks for the feedback m8's. I dont realy want a sealed kit as I'm not worried about performance, just would like to get the induction noise (if any)

if your not worried about performance then stick it on the throttle body

you will hear noise with an open kit not so much with an enclosed

    ^^^

Yup agree with that, the closer the cone or filter is to the throttle body then the louder the induction roar will be as there is less pipe work for the noise to be reduced by and less travel for the air to erm . . . Travel

I read somewhere that changing the amount of distance that induction air travels from the filter to the throttle body can change the amount of torque produced, could be a rolling road test that one.

But in your case it doesnt matter, to also increase noise remove the foam sound deading from the inside of the bonnet wont make a lot of difference but for pure induction roar a simple mod will increase your and others hearing pleasure of a open cone.

Dont forget to get at least some kind of cold air feed on it and maybe a heat shield too from www.espdesign.co.uk you want as much performance as you can keep at least

Hi, I've just been out and got a "Race X" cone, going to fit it on the throttle body and use the old air pipe from front by rad to direct cold air to cone, I think it would work, thanks for all the input.

I should get car back on wednesday (fitting new seal in sunroof) then I can put the filter mods on and test them.
