Fitting a Turbo: ie, who can do it?

  1. #1
Got an opportunity to get a Turbo Kit fitted onto the VTR.

    Included is
    Turbo in MINT condition
    Intercooler
    Oil Cooler
    Turbo Manifold
    Oil Cooler Pipes
    Pipe work
    Boost pipes
    Bends

All I need is a downpipe. What else do I need and is there anyone that could fit it for me? Gonna run it at low boost and try to avoid stripping the engine for forged pistons for now.

Called a few motorsport companies who quoted £2000 for fitting (modifying the engine block to run a pipe in there from turbo that apparently doesn't exist now?? also said it will take over a week)

I'm a newbie for turbos, so need help/advice in what will be needed and who can help[ me out with it.

i live in manc so can help you out ...

not done a turbo myself but know the engine very well

you will still need to lower the compression ratio, its done by either using a doubleheadgasket/compression plate or using forged pistons, with forged being the best route. After that u will need to supply the extra air in the engine with more fuel, this can be done by either fitting bigger injectors/remap or by fitting a MF2 with extra injector and sigcon

Any costings on that Stevenet? Quoted over a grand for forged pistons

Also, Woodsy, thanks for that, I may just be PM'ing you if I definately go with this.

    here is a rough price:

double headgasket ( made of 2 single headgaskets )- £120

    or

    heagasket - £60
    decompression plate - £90 (http://www.ferriday.co.uk/)

    or

    forged pistons £600

    then for fueling

    MF2 - £200
    Sigcon - £250
    injector £60
    2 bar map sensor - £80

after u fitted it al u will need to get the fueling fine tuned on a rolling road at £40-£50 per hour

How much approx would he charge?

Does he work for a garage, or one of your mates?

Im in wakey so when you get it done drop me an email please mate, tell me what its like etc

I was going to fit myself but i think i need to get someone else to do it so i dont fuck it up

    Will do mate.

Reeeeally want one now, may get the kit, then buy the bits i need bit-by-bit, then put it in when got everything and saved for everything I need and fitting.

Don't mind a non-garage person doing it as long as they know what they're doing - cos I definately don't. I'll start a prgress thread on fitting it all together when I do though.

Do I need a remap and fueling altered etc? The kit's come off a VTR and guy says it works without a remap, is this right?

it will work without a remap but the air/fuel ratio will be wrong so you can kiss your pistons goodbye, what pressure was he running it at?

No idea, wil find out tonight and let you know

    they are alot of hassle

Place called AET turbos i think they fit

    duno where they are tho

forged pistons are £400=VAT WHILE STOCKS LAST
use 2 mls h/gaskets instead of decomp plate --will be cheaper and better

you can fit it yourself if you are handy with the spanners. the part that needs to be done correctly is the mapping, otherwise its bye bye engine lol

i fitted my supercharger kit into the car in a day and a half, only thing i didnt do was the mapping.

but paying a pro to do it for you, will mean that its done correctly. may cost a few quid but its peace of mind.

only places i would go to would be GMC or carworx.

but you will need bigger brakes, maybe 206 gti or 306 gti-6 setups, a better uprated clutch maybe helix or AP racing. i have an AP racing twin plate clutch, it can handle a load of stick and power but takes a lot of getting used to using it lol

the helix setup is supost to be easier.

boosting your car can lead to all sorts of problems, but is well worth it in the long run and will always make you smile .

as the boss man Simo the problems that he has had, no better role model than him.
