GMC Manifold VTS (maybe not GMC after all)

  1. #1
Ordered one thursday, arrived friday top job in that department
Fitted it friday but now i have so many noises its unbelievable. Anyone else have unusual noises???
Also noticed today its touching the pipes going down to the oil filter!!!
    pics:

p.s bit oily due as i was in the process of a bit of spring cleaning
  2. #2
    thats one dirty engine bay
  3. #3
I have this on my vts mate, what do you mean unusual noises?

Is this the 4-1 mild steel?
  4. #4
Its not as bad as it looks. Think my cam carrier is leaking but that will get sorted when i get a new head

  5. #5
What have you done with the lamda sensor?
  6. #6
are the gmcs made from mild steel???
  7. #7
    My 4-1 is.
  8. #8
hmmm im beginning to change my mind now swaying towards getting a supersprint 4-2-1 or raceland as money is scarce lol
  9. #9
thats a bit close for my liking on your oil cooler pipes

glad mine went bust and bought a mocal front mounted one to get rid of that peice of shit

mine makes funny noises too, like raspy sounds, gonna heat wrap it next week that should solve it
  10. #10
Vtr needs the 4-1's top end power though...
  11. #11
yeah i got told 4-1s are better suited for VTS and 4-2-1 for vtr being better at low end

tbh if i get the group buy going on the GMC manifolds ill probablies get one, actually a think i will get one
  12. #12
As if gmc are going to start giving out discounts lol

NO the vtr dies out around 4-5k where as the vts comes on cam then therefore the 4-1 is better than the 4-2-1 for the vtr as its top end power.
  13. #13
Its stainless and yeah i also thought its rather close to the oil cooler pipes!

But as the noises go its squeaking (prob from the cone) very loud!!! and also on decelerating above 4k it sounds like it vibrating on something (prob oil pipes!)

Re-routed it up the back of the engine, just about got enough length on the wires!

4-1 is definatly the way to go on the vts, its actually a bit better low down than before and as soon as you hit 4k it takes off!
  15. #15
get a front mounted one mate other wise the manifold will prob heat up the water in the cooler pipes more

thats if it doesnt burn through first, citreon part only £270

    clickyfor best option
  16. #16
    Citroen part?
Whats it from? I work for citroen so will get a pretty good price
  17. #17
the oil cooler is a citreon only part

when mine give in couldnt get one nowhere

them mocal ones keep the oil temp nice and cool too
  18. #18
Oh right i see, will i not need anything else with that kit then? just seems like somethings missing
  19. #19
The one you have does sound like a realy crap fitment mate.

Mine fits perfect it came with the car sounds fooking awesome with the system im running!

Are you sure yours is stainless steal not mild steal?
  20. #20
nope mate all there ... i got mine off him

Apart from that touching that pipe it fitted pretty much perfect. Seems to be my luck with exhausts.
Looks like i will get one of them cooler kits then, thanks for that! repped

And yeah its stainless, i should bloody well hope so for 265 quid!

  23. #23
Good luck with that then Pred gmc manifolds are super'b!
  24. #24
gmcs are mild. at the end of day pred its not gonna be on your for the next 10 years so its not gonna rust away yet, lol.

  30. #30
ahh mine has actually got piper stamped on it, and it is stainless as the bloke told me, he also said they havent got mild ones in stock at the mo

    looks like this anyway

I dont suppose anyones gmc mani looks like this does it lol
  34. #34

  40. #40
    how come stevey
  41. #41
Yeah mine aint exactly perfect either, fitted ok but touching that oil cooler pipe and loads of rattly noises, just aint good

Got manifold and fitted for £107 in the end took them hours to do aswel.
  43. #43
bloody hell ... cheap price though

yeah i have loads of rattles now but been lowered at same time! the exhaust rattling off bottom causes my multi lock thing to rattle like fuck aswel

But on a bonus i can deffo feel the difference the car revs a lot better, never used to rev my car much as it felt choked and as though it was fucked, but today it seemed to be lapping the revs up
  45. #45
Yeah mine was 265 quid, i expect it to be perfect for that price

got lowered on my gmc springs which are apparantly shite lol 40mm all round and manifold fitted for £167 new gaskets, lower arm linkage arm or something as had to be cut off and was siezed so got a new one!
On top, springs were £30 and manifold £50.

Think i have been bumed or a good deal?

dam right mate! should just be a straight swap for the money
  48. #48
gmc manifolds are the piper ones i was told, so they havent really done you...
  49. #49
I wouldnt mind if it was all ok and fitted properly. But i payed extra to get a proper mani so i didnt get this problem

Heat sheild Paa! rip it off less is more...

    what you mean mate? lol
  52. #52
i took all the heat sheilds off my vtr and all was fine, until the car went up in flames! lol

just take it off matey, glad you never got me to fit it now lol

by the way, it never went on fire because i took the heat sheild off lol

just fitted a raceland manifold to the vts and had a few probs with that, was a right clark on, some of the nuts would not go on due to the bends of the manifold being so close to the ends of the studs. so i had to wiggle it around to get the nuts on, then i had to remove the alternator to get access to the nuts on the bottom of the manifold. ended up putting a small hole in the radiator when i tried to pull the old manifold out, got that sorted lol

the manifold seems to be blowing from the manifold/decat joint. the floating joint on the manifold has nuts welded to it, the standard springs will not fit behind this, ie i had to chop a coil off the spring as to get the washer and the nut on.

other than that it seems to pull alot better and feels alot smoother when driving around. it does sound different after 3.5 - 4k, a bit tinny. not sure if thats just the de-cat as i have found these always make a raspy noise on all the cars ive fitted them too.

really impressed with the manifold tho, makes even more bangs, pops and flames now lol
  53. #53
Not all GMC manifolds are just steel, they do a stainless steel 8v.

As for them being made by Piper, this is something new to me. I thought they were all BTB, hence them being 'GMC BTB Manifolds' on their site. Unless Piper are BTB?!

I'd definately call up mate, but they're not a Mickey Mouse company.
  54. #54
I know they do the gmc btb manifolds, but im sure ive heard they are the same as the piper manifolds, that would explain why its got piper stamped on it...

not sure if its true, but i would of contacted them before you go saying you have been done...
  55. #55
    Ring them up mate!

You say you have re routed the sensor up the back of the engine what do you mean by that? Re routed it to where?
  56. #56
The wiring mate, the sensor hole is right at the bottom of the mani yes?
So the wiring just goes up the back of the engine instead of the front

lol not taking it off like, not now! paid £57 to get it fitted, manic motors going to have another look at it! they had to drill it and shit! but its on! and believe me you am not taking it off! They going to try sort something with the centre silencer if no good, then going to get a centre pipe with no silencer in it, that will sort it out, its only just touching and there is no screw holding my heat shield up in that one part! if there was and plaed with the centre pipe a bit be all sorted, also i noticed that with manifold on it moved exhaust system to the passenger side slightley.

My suggestion would be to heat it up and bend it slightley!
  58. #58
i always thought they were made by piper aswel. i never had any probs getting my gmc one fitted at all, went on no probs with no leaks etc either

Yes its right at the bottom of the standard manifold, on the gmc 4-1 there isnt a hole so there is no where for the sensor to go right?

Thats why most fit a sleeve.

What do you mean the wiring goes up the back, to where?
  61. #61
doesnt look like a GMC (BTB) manifold to me. they are normally good fit aswell.
  62. #62
GMC make 1 which by passes the oil filter and pipes
  63. #63
Yes like the on i have ^^
  64. #64
GMC do 2 different 4-1 manifolds, a piper and BTB, they currently have no BTB manifolds in stock as far as i know, there awaiting delivery, the one you have is a piper.
  65. #65
does anyone know whats the best back box to get for performance and loudness , im ordering a gmc manifold and supersprint or gmc strate middle pipe , iv looked at magnex, gmc, mongoose and supersprint back boxes and dont know which one to go for
    anyone got any ideas ?
  66. #66
either mate really, depends what you like
