Exhaust? Power gains? bought mongoose

  1. #1
    Hey all,

I have a 1.25 ford fiesta zetec, i know it's the wrong fourm but i have been a member on here for a couple of months, and no one answered on zetec forum

Will a full system give me any power gains? Or will i be better of just getting a backbox and saving £80-100?

    Thanks!
  2. #2
a full system will unleash more power than a back box, a back box will just make noise a full system id say you wont get much more than 4 or 5 bhp
  3. #3
You won't get huge increases but a full system will deffers see more than a back box. It might be more psychological though, as its louyder you will floor it more and it might feel quicker lol!

lol at the last comment, if i was to get a full system it would be a mongoose. Do you have any other good ones? Magnex don't do them for my model i don't think.

So what do you think? Full system or not...

I can get the magnex for £250 from most sites, £200 from ebay....
Im sure i could get a good backbox locally for £100?

So, backbox or full system - Also preditor, is 4-5 bhp much in terms or power?

Im gusing an induction kit will add 1-3? if that also
  5. #5
you cant get all "max power" buy saying my car has 100 bhp standard, + exhuast 105 bhp then induction kit 108 bhp. it never works like that im afraid.

no one has ever bothered doing back to back rolling road tests with a standard exhuast and an after market one. In reality if you see 5 bhp gain I'd be impressed. With all the mods on my 90 bhp vtr Id be happy if it was 100 bhp.

some exhausts and induction will probs decrease power to be honest

get a full system branch manifold decate straight through to a single back box

ur probs scrape 10 but all depends on the engine really

if you have the old single cam push rod block which i think u probs have ill let you into a little sercet you can get well over 160brake out of one if u no what ur doing

So i should get the system not backbox? The system has backbox and cat....

Hope to order one this week after my first pay day!

Also, any systems you could recomend? Apart from the mongoose one

Scorpion are good exhausts as are piper.

A full system will make the car feel more responsive and will add a couple of bhp but dont expect miracles.
  9. #9
you would be much better with selling the car and buying a decent one lol
  10. #10
hehe, thanks for the help but this is my car, and it is decent mate, thats not a nice comment
  11. #11
i gained 11.45bhp from a filter and exhuast.

    Kapow.
  12. #12
Oh really, thats good mate for a 1.4 de-cat? Or with cat
  13. #13
    1.4 with a cat
  14. #14
    Nice

What exahuse you got mate? And how much did your insurance go up by? Or did u just say a "sainless steel exhaust was fitted"?
  15. #15
i gained 11.45bhp from a filter and exhuast.

    i wish my vts did
  16. #16
im not expecting much, i know that but im going to like the sound and mongoose don't do backboxes for my modle so i can only get a full system if i want a mongoose, and why not £200 seems ok and i hope to get abit from it, 1-3 bhp perhaps? Says 3-4 on some sites....

But it's mainly the sound im after, i will also get an air filter at sometime but atm im on the motor way every day for work so i would use loads of petrol?
  17. #17
i have a sebring back box on a straight through pipe. then a JR Air Filter.

Dont really agree with the petrol thing doesnt seem to make a difference to my car to be honest.

and my insurance went up by nothing.
  18. #18
nothing, did you tell them about the induction kit? Or the exhaust?
  19. #19
    Both....

  24. #24
    Cheers mate, will do!

No matter what size the engine - good quality breathing mods will always improve the cars performance even if it is alittle.

Somepeople say forget tuning small engines but a Good air filter and exhaust never hurts - look at classic mini's, tuning stuff for them really works take a 998cc A series engine about 30bhp (kid you not) but with a stage1 tuning kit like I bought for my metro years ago I saw a an increase of 10bhp! from a Trumpet and sock filter, Water heated inlet manifold, Uprated SU carb needle, LCB manifold and twin box exhaust system.

10bhp dont seem like much but it went from 30bhp to 40bhp thats alot with a small lite car.

So with a change in air filter and a good exhaust you should see a slight difference even on a smaller cc engine - The noise will make it seem faster anyway

    40bhp please no

    Mongoose owner here
You wont be disappointed nor will your wallet

Mine was raspy before de-cat, de-catted the sound became deeper/boomier & louder on the motorway , saw more of an increase with de-cat , oh this is with a 4-2-1 manifold as well. Hoping to get it RR very soon to get an idea of increase with these mods, if all goes well I should be taking my video camera as well so people can hear it in action also.

    Highly recommended mate.

Thans for the comments If you do get a video then post it here please

Vts_16v_boy, you say air filter, would you recomend an induction kit? Rather than a k&N panel filter?

yeah this one is on ebay, do the mongoose's for the saxo of a mid silencer, as i idealy need a system without as since had my manifold fitted the silencer is wedged up into the car and rattles!

This is mikes, i liked it, can't wait to get it now
  34. #34
Mine was £249 delivered including the de-cat (new), fits a dream & is dead centre at the rear.

Will defo post the vid when it gets mapped & RR'd.

Sounds very similiar to the vid posted by Clone, infact mine maybe bit louder/boomier as my VTR is de-catted & sitting on the end of a 4-2-1 manifold, is annoyin on the motorway thou when your sitting there for hours with a huge noice coming from the back , considering this Sportex de-cat which has a silencer but not to sure if it will make a noticable difference to noice & its mild steel ...
