Extra power from stripping out vts

  1. #1
How much power can be gained from doing this? And by that i mean not going too mad and taking the front door cards off, i still want some sense of welcome when i get into the car.

But for example, everything in the back of the car could come out, but how much is there to get out aside from the obvious rear seats. Any idea how much difference i makes or if it is even worth doing at all??

    Many many thanks...

you'll gain no power, if you take enough out will notice it seems a little quicker when accel' as there is less weight

    baz is spot on!

Dan, why did you think you would get any power gains!? lol

it will deffo be quicker if you strip it completely, i.e doorcards, rear seats, parcel shelf, carpets, roof lining, dash, etc

wont get any 'power gains' may see a difference in accel. like stated above.

i would never do it personally. not only do i think it looks crap. its not practical for me.

    power-to-weight will improve
  6. #6
^^ hes right it will, it will FEEL much quicker

Its good fun even more so round corners haha!

Defo worth doing as it looks mint aswell as making your car slightly quicker, its all about power to weight ratio's so the lighter you can get the car, the quicker she'll go.

    i wouldnt recommend it

    my shopping would roll about.

    Plus im a style whore.

Cant get eggs on my leather

i would just love it if you could simply take the steering wheel off and add an extra 0.5 bhp lol

How far do wana go? is really the answer.

It stands to reason that with less weight the car will pull slightly better and driven sensably your use less petrol as your pullin less weight around.

Stripin out interior and other bits here and there will improve the cars 0-60mph and pick up and generall accelration - Your see more gains the further you go.

Back Seats, Parcel Shelf, Rear carpet and sound deading and rear door cards will be a very good step some people also chooce to remove the Spare wheel and cage under the car - I removed the cage but kept the spare just incase and put it inside. See below

Others have gone further, Front door cards, front carpet (mines going in the summer), Lower centre console, Change to lighter Bucket seats and even headlining - Look to people like Bullit for extreme stripin but its all a case of how sparse due wana live with

a couple on ssc have even removed dash, poly windows and even removed wiring that isnt needed.

iv found that with my back end stripped, the front of the car acts like a pivot and when you chuck it into corners you have to be ready with a quarter of oposite lock as the back end slides around quite easily!

I went that far on my 205 Rallye, Got it to under 700 kgs and it was as fast around the track as the Gti's. Not bad for a 1.4

Less weight benifits everything, accelleration, braking and cornering.

My new car is going to be as light when finished with 3 times as much power which should be good around the track.

That is due to the weight transfer under braking and the appaulling F/R weight ratio. You can tweak the suspension to limit this.

VTS 16v Boys a ghey though, he has taken his seats out, but put a jack that weighs 10 x more in the back

sounds about right mate as the weight and friction is all focus at the front and besides your pushing 146 bhp through your wheels so dont blame ya lol

no power gains just less weight = less drag on the engine

not quite dude, i but i know what you meant to say...

    Recall GCSE science...

    Force = Mass * Acceleration.

    Rearranging...

    Acceleration = Force/Mass

    Force is the engine
    Mass is the car's mass
    Acceleration is... you've guessed it

So reducing your mass increases tha acceleration.
