Aftermarket Steering Wheel fitment

  1. #1
Ok so in ref to my prevous thread about the Harnesses - when I remove the front seat the pretensioner will then dectect that the seat belt tensioner is missing/damaged etc and the airbag light will come on - so to solve this I guess it makes the most sense to have a new steering wheel fitted at the same time and the dash borad taken apart and the airbag light taped up.

    My question is . . .

Is there anywhere that offers a service that fits a steering wheel and sorts the dash out as well?

Ive fitted loads of steering wheels in the past and dont mind anything thats just screws but anything that involves wires and I wont do it even if Im not touching the wires themselves silly I know but thats just me

nonsense, airbag isn't a legal requirement nor is it part of an MOT test.
Just put black tape over the light for now, I did this when I fitted my Lotus wheel but only because I couldn't be bothered hauling the dials out to remove the bulb.

really easy mate, all you have to do to get to the dials is drop the coloumn down by unbloting 3 bolts

    1. disconnect battery for 10 mins

    2. unsrew the airbag 2 torx screws on back of wheel

    3. put the air bag unit in a cool place were it wont get knocked

    4. undo the steering wheel torx bolt, tip for you, dont undo the bolt all the way makes it safer to get wheel off as it wont smack you in the face

    5. undo the 2 torx scres on the steering wheel surrounds

    6. undo 3 bolts to drop coloumn down

    7. take the rev surround off by undoing the 4 torx screws

    8. take the dials out by undoing 3 torx screws

    9. unplug the plugs, and take the dials apart, there just clips that you prise up

    10. take the warning strip out and hold up to the light and tape over the air bag light

    11. fit the dials and rev surround back and bolt the coloumn back in place

    12. put the steering wheel boss on and bolt it in place with the big torx steering wheel bolt, fik the wheel onto the boss using the allen head bolts

    13. put the steering wheel surrounds back and your done
