Kind of How-To guide referbishing vt alloys!

  1. #1
    Hi because a lot of pepole are posting up about referbishing alloys i thought i would show the progress of my new finished referbishment of my vt alloys;

    first up go and buy what you need (halfrauds etc...)

    Sanding paper 80
    Wet dry 1200
    Filler Primer x1
    Primer x2
    Colour x2
    Laquer x2
    Preferably have your original tyres taken off if not masking tape and newspaper galore!!!!!

    Before; this is just one of them (the worst of course but they were all like this!)

    I bought these alloys off Malky for £40 Cheers mate!

    Prep;
    Sanding paper 80
    Wet dry 1200
    Filler Primer x1

    • Sand out the alloys all over with the paper to get all of the original laquer and colour off the alloys (if required use a wire brush on the parlicularly bad parts)
    • Wash
    • Wet dry untill the alloys are completely smooth
    • Wash
    • Filler Prime (this fills in any scratches and bubbling, that you sanded out)
    • Leave 24hrs
    • Wet dry

    REMEMBER WHEN PREPPING IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO WET DRY BETWEEN EVERY LAYER OR YOU WONT HAVE A NICE SMOOTH SHINY END RESULT!!!

    Spraying;
    Primer x2
    Colour x2
    • Primer

    Leave 24hrs

    TWO COATS
    • Colour

    Lever 24hrs

    TWO COATS

    This part is pretty easy just be sure that you apply even coat in a brushing motion through-out (this avoids any paint running) in a dust free environment (garage, shed etc...)

    Finshing;
    Laquer x2
    • Laquer

    I did about 5-6 coats of laquer you can nver do enough

    12hrs between each layer
    24hr after the final layer

    This stage is extremely important that there is no dust, hair, dirt anything in the air because as you know laquer is see-through so anything that sticks to the alloys when laquering will become apart of the alloy so be carefull!!!!

    There you are the finished product

    I then bought some TOYO PROXIES

    Had them fitted...

    well worth it took me a full month, remember not to rush it if you want a perfect end result!!! stand back and admire youre hard work

    Cheers

    Would love to know how they do it and what results you get, At work we do em for £50-60 each a wheel. As for the kerbing, if you know how, you dont need and filler etc to get rid of it.
