New Gear Box.

From my MOT today is come aparrant that i need a new gearbox.

now my mate has a 1.1 box lying round which hes more than happy to give to me.

    will this be okay?

heard it also increases speed somehow? Ture/False?

    Cheers.

it has different ratios so it may be quicker on acceleration not too sure about top end would have thought it would be less?

People will probs tell you different but i thought the 1.1 gearbox's were shorter ratio's than westy/furio, vtr, vts ones.. which means acceleration would be better top end might be similar but will be revving higher at 80mph than with your current gearbox.

i.e my westy does 70 in 5th at 3k rpm, if you put a 1.1 box in it it would be at say 4k rpm at the same speed in 5th

What i have said is true if the 1.1 box's are shorter..

Not sure exactly how it compares to the furio's box but iirc the 1.1 & vts box have very similar ratios (if not the same) from 1st to 4th & these are the closest ratio boxes which should help you get through the gears quicker.

However each of the engines have different powerbands and make peak torque at different rpm so since the box is directly suited to the car you might not see any gain atall. Also you could lose time on things like quartermile runs due to the car falling out of its powerband on changes or just having too many gear changes. I think the final drive on the 1.1 box will be shorter than your current one too so you might find your able to hit the limiter in your top gear (on a private track blah blah)

It will certainly fit though, better waiting on one of the boffins or someone with a 1.1 box on their furio to confirm about the accelleration though

ah right thanks alot. basically i can get this box free. which is great and fitting would be free. im just trying to save some pennys.

not bothered about top end speed to be honest.!

It should be slightly faster through the gears due to shorter FD, but youre talking next to nothing. ratios themselves, overall, are really similar. I used my 1.1 AX box for ages and it was fine. Just dont do loads of flat out jumps or wheelspins as the planet gears in the diff are smaller and wont take too much abuse.

    Otherwise itll be spot on

Wheelspins are gay. cant afford to burn rubber.

looks like im going to get this box fitted. not sure when but needs to be soon. the lay shaft whining is doing my swede in.
