Massive Problem...What can I do???

  1. #1
Right....took the sax to be lowered today, got a call two hours later from the garage to tell me that there was no way of removing my torsion bar as it was seriously seized!

What are my options now? maybe buying a new rear beam of ebay?

I feel a bit stuck, really wanted it lowered today
  2. #2
    New beam i ould say..
  3. #3
This happends alot even more so if its an older model!

    What year is your car?

If they are seized they can still be taken out! Just need soaking!

    Has it been lowered before?
  4. #4
Yeah as riggsy said they will come out eventually they just need a fair amount of work to remove them.

New rear beam would be an option but expensive imo.

its a 1998 mk1, not been lowered before!

    How much soaking?!

I'm worried about shearing off the torx bolt in the end trying to remove it
  6. #6
loads of differnt methods to unseise them mate do a search, most garages give up at the first hurdle as there not that confident at doign torsion bars anyway
  7. #7
I havent lowered a saxo before, but i know people that have and they have left the torsion bars to soak over night.....
  8. #8
I hear WD40, or Coke mixed with WD40 does the trick mate
  9. #9
Yeh have done loads of searches so have a pretty good idea of what to do, jus dont want to break it.

How do you soak it over night? (sorry if that sounds stupid!?)
  10. #10
Best thing to do it get some one to do this that does it alot ie Steve on here on there is a bloke on ssc that did mine on my vtr....

Most garages are wankers they dont like lowering cars or working on lowered cars, well thats what i have found in my life time of modified cars

mix wd40 with some coca cola (there is a particular acid in the coke that helps to unseise things) anyway mix it together in a pot and tehn cake it aroudn the torsion bar ends leave a few hours and then cake some more on then have a go at either slide hammering, socket pulling or hitting a bar against it from the other side to get the torsion bars out. also u can use a blow torch to heat the ends up as when u heat the metal up it expands and helps to release it. and if all that fails then look at gettign a new beam.

    Sounds like an exciting job!

Guy at the garage said heating it up will weaken the the suspension?!!

Also seem to be stuck at the removing the bolts stage!

depends how hot u get it and how u apply the heat, u try all the other methods first then try the heating one last. i've done about 15 torsion bars now and only 4 of them came out first time the rest were seised.

I wish u still offered the lowering service! stupid damn bar.

I looked at it a couple of days ago and it looked very rusty. could only see the bolt for the torsion bar after scraping a load of shit and rust away.
