GMC manifold, rusting?

   I have a mild steel gmc 4-1 manifold on my vts, up top it seems ok but down lower it has started to rust. Must be where its closer to the road
   
   You think its a good idea to take it off, sand it down and then paint using hammerite paint? This should stop it rusting any further right?
   
   I should also be able to sand off the old rust before painting yeh?

   ceramic coating/heatwrapping.
   
   it will only be surface rust.

   Yeah thought about ceramic coating.
   
   So if i sand it down and then paint with hammerite will that be no good?

   hammerite can take some stupid temps, it shud handle it but will come off eventually

   Hammerite is very heatproof! They use it to paint bbq's etc!

   leave it alone and let it be. mine has surface rust already at the bottom part its all ok....

    Yes but surely if i paint with hammerite it will last much longer?
    
    Cars coming off road end of the month as tax runs out so i will be working on it anyway....

    lot of it has to do with the contanst Heating up then cooling down. The damp weather here in UK doesnt help much either.
    
    If you have the time remove the manifold remove all the surface rust with wire brush either on a drill or angle grinder then paint with Hammerite all over then wrap the sections you can with Heat Wrap.
    
    By the time you have wasted money on getting it done proffesionally you might as well have put the money towards a replacement item in Stainless Steel

    Hammerite is not any good on an exhaust!
    
    ceramic/wrap is the best option.

    Heat wrap below the point where the Lambard sensor is abit of a bad idea as it will get wet and could hold the damp and around welds possibly speed up crostion (rust)

    heat wrap has alot of fibreglass in it. so shouldnt absorb lots of water.
    
    heat wrapping the whole lot helps keep the internal air temp higher, which increases gas speed.
    
    adsayer can do the tehcno babble im not lol.

    heat wrap can hold the moisture and rot the fanimold inside out if it doesnt get hot enough, Stainless steel is brittle. Stick with wot u have and paint it if you want it to look posh

    Unless i get it ceramic coated first? But i thought painted with high temp paint would be the other option to this?
    
    So what then paint with hammerite? Or not?
