4-2-1 Manifold

  1. #1
    Am looking at getting my manifold changed. Am looking for a 4-2-1 manifold setup.

    Are there any mods i have to do to get this to fit as the existing one on my VTS (2003 model) looks like it is a standard 2-1 manifold. Not an engine sort of person and dont want to buy something and it turn out to be the wrong part!

    Is the VTS engine setup as follows, obviously inbetween there is piping:

    Engine --> Manifold --> Cat --> Backbox

    Wanting to get it done asap as ive got a 3.5" Magnex exhaust on its way

    pretty sure its a straight fit then mate. The worst possible scenario you may have to re-locate the oil filter. But im sure you won't have to, cause its a straight fit!

    dont know if this is a slight thread hijack but will a 4-2-1 manifold from a gti go straight on a vts???

    i'll let ya off mate! im after the same sort of knowledge, changing from the standard 2-1 manifold my VTS came with, to a 4-2-1, if its a straight swap i'll go get the one i want at the weekend.

    Question...

    The exhaust you are getting, is it a catback, or is it a full system with the bypass pipe? Shoudn't matter anyhow, the connection on the end of your current cat pipe will fit the one on the end of your new exhaust manifold (just like you Magnex will) as they are all pretty much standard when buying for the 106 / Saxo. Exhaust have different types of connections however, such as overlapping, or olive and a clamp style. Not to worry, the connection to the exhaust manifold is definately going to fit!

    Wait till you get the two parts though, it's pointless installing them at different times.

    Have you decided on a perticular exhaust manifold?

    Oh, MarkyG, have you done anything about your induction? Remember, if you are wanting exhaust gases to exit faster, you'll need air going in quicker too!

    so a polished 4-2-1 manifold would go strasight onto a VTS, if a Pug 106 one will, then surely one made for the VTS will go straight on?

    vts has 4-2-1 as standard but its heavy duty cast iron one or something and not a stainless one and yes it will bolts stright on alto on some differnt designs u sometimes have to fit a smaller oil filter or relocate the oil filter depending which make of manifold u get

    I think that its normaly Phase1 16v's that need the oilfilter moving and in some cases manifolds are sold with the kit if not GMC sell a oilfilter relocation kit.

    Ive got a 99 Plate Phase2 so its border line between Phase1 and Phase2 and Ive had 2manifolds on mine Janspeed 4-2-1 mild steel and a Piper 4-1 stainless steel and they have both been fine with no problems in ref to oilfilters.

    Have a look around at the brands you are looking to purchase ie RaceLand, Janspeed, SuperSprint, GMC, Piper etc then ask about and see if anyone else with the same aged car has fitted that item
