Bigger brakes on the rear of a saxo?

  1. #1
Anybody got bigger brakes on the back of there VTR/VTS?? if so what?

would bigger brakes on the back make an advantage or not??
  2. #2
no point in them mate, hardly do any braking, you have bigger front brakes thats all thats needed really, could get bigger back ones for show i suppose

i haven't come across another pug/cit with bigger rear brakes than 247mm. which is the same size as the saxo/106.

As above, the balance of breaking from front to rear is highly in favour of the fronts anyway (70% front: 30% rear) or there abouts.

With bigger brakes on the front anyway there wont really be a noticable difference atall from getting bigger ones on the rear.

You'd probably get more benefit and itll be cheaper to upgrade the master cylinder if you have bigger front brakes already

only reason you will need a larger MC is if the fluid volume of the calipers is a lot bigger than standard.

I've got 306 GTI calipers on my 106 GTI, and I didn't change the MC. It's fine IMO, but there is a tad more play on the pedal then before. The rear brake upgrade will make a difference, but it's a small change compared to upgrading the front, just like other people have mentioned.

4 pots on the rear... Hmmmmm

go fit your wheels rush, im warning you

if you have 266mm brakes is it worth doing the master cyclinder!?

6 pots of the rear all the way.....

Drop williamsVTS a PM on that one, he seems to be most in the know when it comes to brakes Sure he'll come back across this thread later

not 100% sure but dont think u'll need to change the MC with 266mm brakes think its more usefull when upgrading to monster like calipers that its worthwhile changin it

Ripped the MC completely out on mine and made a one off adjustable pedal box.

Works really well and allows the braking balance to be moved between the front and back brakes.

I think it's already been mentioned but replacing the MC will only reduce the pedal travel on your brakes, not make them better.

i have 266mm on my VTR with the standard MC and its fine, maybe a bit more travel on it due to having to push a bigger piston but not that you would notice to be honest

Okay quick question, should I have changed my Master Cylinder with having
    4 pots on the front??

    I didnt btw.

dpends what 4 pots rushy, some are made to be used with standard MC.

you shouldnt need to change the MC with 266mm brakes.

    okey docky...

Cituning do a 292mm rear disc upgrade to use standard callipers. Only way I can see it being of benefit is if you have a boot full of ice
  19. #19
by fitting big brakes on the front you move the bias forward. Unless you fit some whoppers like 6 pots I doubt you can notice though.
I would reckon that instead of changing the rear brakes a simple bias lever to do the adjustment will be fine as I doubt the current rear setup is pushed to its boundaries on heat dissipation

Then my vtr track wheels wouldn't fit over them?? and would possibly look daft, since i only have 266mm setup on the front.

    C5's have 275mm rear discs?
