Exhaust!!

  1. #1
I have a T reg Saxo Spree 1.0L. It has a standard exhaust on at the moment but my friends have said it sounds like a scooter when it has small or high revs. Runs quitely at around 3000 rpm (correct me if i am wrong). My dad seems to think it may have a small hole in it somewhere as it sounds kind of throaty and crackles in neutral when it has no revs (at a stop basically)

Any one suggest any exhaust backboxes or systems? Only really want to spend about £100 at the most and ideally around £50-£80. If it has a hole in the exhaust pipe i will probably get it repaired as full system is quite abit of Dollar init

I aint got a clue, so few suggestions plz. Also if you know of the problem explain please

    Thanks

    Hi mate.

Just jack the car up, turn the engine on, and check all the way through the exhaust for any blows. That's the most accurate way... Let us know what you find, and then you can decide what you want to do next.

ok then, will do tomorrow and let you know

Most off the shelf direct fitment back boxes ie Peco and Sportex will set you back about £80-£100+

Both have quite a large list of tailpipe options check out www.performancecentre.co.uk for Peco and other exhausts and www.tuning.co.uk for Sportex items.

Expect to pay more for a more branded stainless steel back box ie piper, scorpion.

Also you wont see much if any gain in performance from a back box but it will make the car sound and feel faster which isnt a bad thing

Just had a look now. Would a 1.1 back box fit on my car (a 1.0?). Probably the same aint they?

    Bloody hell what now!

Nothing wrong with a Peco or Sportex back box if its just alittle bit of noise he wants on a base model.

So what do you reckomend he gets?

my mates bro has got some kind of backbox on his corsa which he bought for £50 brand new. I dunno what make it is and i dont think he does neither. It sounds nice (loudness at around 8/10), looks good and only cost him £20 to get it fitted (he knows a welder nearby that did it for him). Only thing is he dosent know how it was fixed on, only that it was a universal one. Would a corsa and a saxo be different to fit (ie. more difficult?)

    Thanks

might need new hangers putting on....

Universal boxes need hangers welding on.

is it possible to secure a universal box to your car without welding? (sorry, not thread jacking)

are they reasonably loud? Im after something that is quite loud and maybe something that crackles when slowing down through the gears? Is that possible?

    Cheers

Found an ebay shop that sells direct fit sportex exhaust systems for a 1.0i and 1.1i. Here is the link http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Evolution-R...QQftidZ1QQtZkm. I am tempted for the 4inch jap one.

You may have to scroll down to find the systems. They say Citroen Saxo 1.0,1.1Sportex exhaust system (FC06) JAP4 or whatever. Up for £134.95

    Good price?

DIrect fits like Peco and Sportex are abit more expensive but thats because they will fit striaght away first time (within reason).

Universal cans and cheap as they are what they are its one size fits all from a 850cc upto, well . . . whatever.

A custom exhaust shop or anyone with a welder will beable to knock you up new hangers and brackets on the can.

Check out eBay or www.essexracing.com for universal cans post what area your in and Im sure someone on here must have used a custom exhaust shop within driving distance of you

okie dokie. Reckon them exhausts that i posted as a link (very bottom of first page) are any good. Would be willing to pay £140 for something good.

I cant see how they cant Not be any good really.

A exhaust is A exhaust a decent fitter will be able to make up for any bends that arent quite right. For that money you cant really go wrong as it will replace all the OE pipework right up to the cat and your have a nice looking tailpipe to boot aswell.

After all a Stainless Steel, Branded back box will cost at least that maybe more!

As long as yours falls between them dates stated which make it Phase2 (later saxos with the bigger headlights) then why not order it.

The Backbox you ordered before, either stick in the 4sale section on here or whack it on eBay you may get all of your money back you never know
