new backbox

i got a universal savage backbox to fit on my 1.1 saxo, (im just making my car sound nice before the performance pros stick the knife in)

hopefuly wont need too much work, also just wondering what else could i do to get a nice noise from my car that isnt too expensive.

will an induction kit of some sort do the trick?

erm it wont sound nice, it will sound like a tortoise trying to squeese a shit out!

also universal usually means 'universally shit at fitting and will cost more in the end than a proper one'

if you want noise and dont care about performance go for a bolt on KnN..

If you looking for pure noise (in a good way) then removing the centre box from the exhaust so that you have a straight pipework from the cat all the way to the back box will/should give you a nice burble on tickover then a nice deep throaty note as you go up the rev range.

Alot will depend on the size and style of the back box.

Also a open cone filter either Cotton (K&N style) of Foam (Pipercross style) will/should give a induction roar under hard accleration, bearing in mind tho that it will probally be drained alittle out by the custom exhaust.

With a induction filter try to keep it as close to the throtle body as possiable as this will increase the noise - the further away from the throtle body the more the induction roar will drop.

Dont forget even if your not looking for performance your need a cold air feed on the airfilter as hot air is crap air

it will also resonate to fuck when driving along the motorway and drone alot at high revs.

I wouldnt agree with that at all, some custom exhaust can sound alright and any exhaust even an off the shelf item is only as good as the person that fits it.

A good custom exhaust shop will make a good job of any and every job.

Make sure when you go in to talk to the exhaust shop make sure you have a good long talk with the fitters about postions and what your after. That way you should get what your after

removing the center box causes resonation. its a fact, thats why the silencer is there in the fist place. ive run a saxo with std, btb, a sebring with the straight through with a std rear box and an aftermarket one, know others who have run alot of diff set ups to. and removing the center pipe does cause alot of resonation!

also custom exhausts if you suggest pooerflow i shal laugh.

But if thats what he's after then it doesnt matter.

Mines now straight through from the cat back to my new custom built Group N style back box and yes its bit boomy on the motorway but then Im stripped out at the back so, but then I except it for what it is

Nope, Even I wouldnt touch Powerflow with a bardge pole I'll agree with you on that one.

I think it all depends on your likes and disslikes when it comes to exhausts and pretty much everything else when it comes to car tuning and styling.

So just do what you think looks right after all its your car and your money

as us two could probally go on all night about custom exhausts

im not saying the note is not personal. i was warning him that it will resonate!!

and so if he does alot of motorway stuff where it will drone quite alot he should be wary.

stripped out i shall show everyone stripped out soon

i do alot of short trips really. So motorway resonance isnt a problem, its my first car and i just want it to sound nice, i think the backbox i got is quite nice as its only quite small, i think its the 4" one, il have to measure, but i can imagine it on my car and looking quite good.

i just wanna get the car sounding nice, ready for when i can afford to get her some nice shoes lol

its a pain in the arse looking for 3 stud alloys, most of them look wank.

can get some nice 3 spokes, compomotive do a set.

or get the 4 stud shiz off of a bent 106xsiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii or something to open your choice.

your backbox will prob need to have the center pipe cut and welded as the reducer pipes are usually poo

Its generally accepted that single round 3'-4' looks most at home on the Saxo. If your gettin it fitted try and get the bumper slightly trimed so it allows for the siliener to fit higher up, sometimes a big exhaust just hanging down under the rear bumper can look abit pony where as trimed into the bumper will make it look more at home
