A few FAQ answers for base model owners

  1. #1
Not sure if these have been covered much in the FAQ sections, but ive noticed these few things cropping up a bit lately. Hopefully these should help a little

    1. I have fitted larger wheels than standard and i have rubbing sometimes going over bumps or when i have passengers in the back, what is it??

    Answer

Quite often it is this inner lip which catches on the tyres over bumps or when carrying passengers.

Also your wheels may require spacers due to the wheels offset, If you have bought your wheels 2nd hand it may be that the person you have bought them from hasnt supplied the spacers. Seek advice from somewhere which sells these wheels and find out the necessary spacer width

    2. I am looking to fit a VT kit to my Saxo and have heard that i need to make some modifications by the arches, what are they?

    Answer

The rear panel and front wings on base models are of slightly different shape to the VT ones. The base model ones tend to sit lower down over the wheels arch.

When you remove a standard bumpstrip on the rear and place a VT arch up into position you'll see that the baseline of the VT arch takes a similar shape to the red line shown in the picture.
The shaded blue area is the part of the standard panel which needs to be cut away to ensure that is doesnt stick out in an unsightly mannor below the VT arch line.

A similar sized segment needs to be extracted at the same point on the front wing

    3. When fitting a VT kit do i need to drill any holes in the bodywork or can i use some of the holes which are already there after removing the bump strip?

    Answer

There are a few options available here:

Firstly where the bumpstrip is removed some of the original holes can still be used by the VT arch (on the rear) as they are a direct match.
Ive forgotten exactly how many of these there are down the strip but to show their location they are marked with a red dot.

Now this is where the difference is:

You can either drill new holes for where the blue dots are on the picture, an easy way to do this is paint the end of the clips with some paint and when the arch is offered up to the car the paint will stick on the panel in position. Dont drill the holes too big else the clips will just pop back out, and ensure that approproate rust prevention treatment is used!!!

Alternatively on this section of the arch it is possible to just use a adhesive such as TIGERSEAL instead of drilling. This is also a good adhesive to use for the VT arch panel where it goes down the bottom and sides marked in Green

On my car i drilled the holes on the top of the arch and the ones on the bottom i didnt drill, i used tiger seal on the sides and bottom to provide a better sealant to prevent road dirt and grime getting under the panel that likes to splash up in that general area

Hope these help a few people, ill add a few more bits as and when or whenever anyone requests.
Ill include some more diagrams on VT kit fitting upon request

i got a central locking kit from a 1.4 furio and want it fitted ( i already have a aftermarket alarm fitted which works with this) where is it wired up to? how do i wire through the doors? thanks, Jake.

i thought you were asking the question then, good work

    Can I just add:

For more EXTREME archwork on a base model:

    - You may have to cut away part of the bodywork behind the side trim, particularly if you have large wheels e.g. 16" and are lowered 40mm or more. Always remember to either get the area cut resprayed or seal it likeI have in the photo below, otherwise moisture will get to your bodywork and rust it away.

This is what mine look like:

A similar fitting hint to above...

When fitting the door moulding panel from the VT; the top holes are again the same match as the ones which the bump strip fitted in.

Drilling can be done on the bottom again as there are more clip holes, but id suggest the use of Tigerseal again on the bottom and sides to block any road dirt, salt or grime getting underneath it.

The panel will stay in place at the top due to the clips being in place, but for the bottom and sides the method i used was to get hold of some clamps to clamp the door and panel together whilst it dries-

obviously protect the surface with something that wont mark your paint (Dont overtighten clamps) and as the door will be open whilst clamped do it early in the day whilst you work on other areas of the car to allow it to set before nighttime or do this with your car parked securely in a garage

aww dang it, cheers anyway, i got an aftermarket alarm with function of central locking but didnt get it at same time, does anyone know if i wire it up to connections for central locking on alarm and make sure i get lock and unlock the correct way around? the wires for electric widnows and central locking are together in a block plug, can i just take them out of that block plug to use just the central locking wires alone?thanks in advance people, rep will be given, Jake.

lol ok mate. It's just I'm picking up a silver rear bumper and rear arches tmw from a local scrappy apparently in pristine condition so I'm hoping to trial fit

Bumpers are a piece of cake, they fit using the same fittings right across the Saxo range.

You can trial fit rear arches and door mouldings then by slotting them into the bump strip holes, they'll hang into place

So its only the front arches and sideskirts that cant really be trial fitted unless you want to use some strong tape or something (mind the paint)

    wow, nice one mate.

I think I might measure where the holes are from a wreck at a scrappy so I get it 100% right.

no probs, that was my research for fitting mine
I went the tigerseal route.. mainly because that kit when i took it off the car, was a bitch to get off because of the tigerseal !, its very strong..
i used a black markerpen and a angle grinder haha

just some pics to add il add more when i get the rest of the kit and start fitting
