1360cc westcoast engine tune

  1. #1
hey im assuming the 1.4 saxo westocoast engine is the same as the 106 quicksilver, i was just wondering what power it would need to get it similar to the vtr power of around 90/98BHP, its it easy to achieve with basic mods? such as vtr parts?

    regards dan
  2. #2
just get the vtr engine will be easier and poss cheaper to
  3. #3
theres a lad on ssc called houghman, he tuned his 1.4 to decent power. you wanna have a word with him.
  4. #4
1.4 is quite tunable, xsi head will get you decent gains!

thanks for the quick replies, i was just wondering cause i love saxo's and i love the 106, but i prefer the quicksilver's and i carnt afford a 106gti, just wonderded if vtr power could be extracted from that engine , what about nitrous? lol

its the same engine anyway just smaller bore.. Get a performance cam, exhaust and airfilter with a remap anf you will sit all over a VTR. Mine did just after stripping it out, now with a 4 branch it stays with mk2 vtr's to 90 odd then they go past slowly.

Theres only 1 16v engine in the saxo 106 range and thats the VTS.

And you should get close if you do what James said. If you cam it youll get decent gains obviosly

    Ben comes with back up!
  13. #13
ah sounds like good stuff, so there basically a 1.4 8 valve? the quicksilver, i know that there 75bhp, well thats what parkers says. its just if i get 1 soon, i want to be able to keep with my cousin's standard saxo vtr

lol, fair enough mate. its good to be competitive in this world.. Get one and do the things i mentioned and you will be away, also have a play with him in his vtr and just see the standard difference, you will be surprised how well your car does after all, only 15bhp down so will only start to pull away in high end of 2nd maybe 3rd or so..

I think bullit was sayin no to the 16v question not ur response mate

And yeah theyre 75bhp std at the fly, prob a bit less after the years. Breather mods are the way forward, sort out a decent panel filter or enclosed induction kit, stright through exhuast system and a 4-2-1 manifold and youll be close.

Its not a great engine for tuning though tbh, if you can afford the insurance declaring all the mods if you plan to insire them, you may aswell whack a VTR lump in there. Unless you just like to tune it anyway, which is a better view than just going for power i reckon
  18. #18
Forget the vtr lump imo. VTS would be the way to go.

If they have been serviced properly wont lose power either ben!

yeah ill try and get the dosh sorted and try and find 1 soon, yeah i think at first i wont be bothered but im sure after a while ill want the power so i can keep up. At the mo i drove a 1.3i ford ka, 65bhp nothing special.

thanks for the replies guys i really appreciate it, carnt believe how fast some of the respnoses have been.

True, but how many have been, most saxo owners either rant tho fook out of them or are so old they couldnt care less about oil filters
  23. #23
True, but ranting them is ok, just regular servicing.

But as you said most people who own saxo's who aren't enthusiasts wont service them properly etc..

You can get good power from the 1360 TU's. 147 @ the flywheel!

    yeah like the 1.3 rallye
  27. #27
Its strong reliable power as well. Lots of torque low down, but needs also to be revved like a valver
  28. #28
Sounds like an animal tbh! It makes me want to do stuff to my 1360!
