HELP fitting uprated hoses? What to do, buy new hose?

  1. #1
Me and my mate went to fit a 306 gti6 setup to his saxo vts today

We have done one corner (nsf) But when it came to the osf the nut where the uprated hose connects to has been rounded off therefore we cant figure out how to get the old hose off?

How can we sort this? The connections on the rears are also very corroded and dont seem to want to come away?

Tried wd40 etc etc, no luck?
  2. #2
This happened to me, exactly the same side too!

i just left it, and they've been sat in my garage for ages lol
  3. #3
LOL no help atall then mate.

    Would mole grips work?

Blow torch to heat it up?

Cut it off with hacksaw blade?
  4. #4
    blow torch and mole grips
  5. #5
simo had to completely replace his whole front brake pipes when he fitted his new brakes due to the corrosion. Mole grips or heat might work but might be worthwhile just replacing the pipe
  6. #6
a great excuse to get braided hoses
  7. #7
These are braided hoses that were fitting hence title "fitting uprated hoses"

Ill get a blow torch on it, he tried with mole grips today but its not coming off

Scott you mean he replaced the whole standard s/s hose pipes?

yeah if its the nut thats on the pipe end then that section of pipe will have to be replaced unfortunalyly as the nut cannot be replaced unless to cut the end then put a new nut on and then re-flare it so its jsut better to get a new section of pipe

opps didnt read properly - been working long hours so am proper knackered lol
if the copper pipe is relatively old then it will be a bugger to flare. It seems to go hard when it oxidises. If you have to go that route I would take the opportunity to replace the whole line. It will only cost a couple of quid for a few connectors and a few metres of copper brakeline. The nice new copper line is so soft it will flare nicely and give a better seal.

Another note. Get some brakeline spanners as these will reduce the risk of the connectors rounding off. Normal spanners do not grip as evenly and round the buggers most of the time

use a blow torch and a spanner jsut too small for the nut. the hammer straght onto the spanner, this will crack it off. you'll round them off trying to turn it.

you havent read it properly again its his braided hoses that are fucked

thus it being the nut on the metal pipe not on the hose, its the one on the left in this pic:

and as camracing said u should allways use hose spanners as they get a better hold so less likely to round off:
  14. #14
i dont like them, i use a normal spanner and a hammer and they come straight off. no rounding.
  15. #15
Yes im talking about whats in steves pic!

If we get the nut of cant we just buy a new one then?

you can but u have to cut the flare off and then fit the nut and then flare the end out again, you need a pipe falring kit but as camracing said its hard flare old pipes so its prob better to get a copper pipe made up or get a new one from citroen, plus u know it will have a good seal then

Where does this copper pipe that we need connect on to?

I mean how far away from where it is flared?

This well and truly sucks realy gutted for my mate!!

Did any of you have this problem when taking the old nuts off? We even used those special spanners ^^

The rear hoses are going to be fun and games then, as there is two nuts that need undoing on each one
  18. #18
Oh and another thing this nut and the ones on the rears are 11mm right?

I have tired a 10mm spanner but no deff 11mm same as yours lads?

Just spoken to someone else that uprated his hoses and he said he used a brake spanner and didnt have this trouble atall! So when it comes to doing mine on my car if i use one of these (which i now have) i wont have this trouble right? As they cant round nuts off?
  19. #19
Just get a dremmel and cut the cunt off...
  20. #20
thats why i said to do what i do then you wont need to do all that shit.
  21. #21
if we cut it off tho standard copper hose wil need replacin how much are these?
  22. #22
you wont need to cut them off mate. just bray a spanner on that is too small for the nut.
  23. #23
Ok but how are we going to get the nut back on and tight if its rounded?
  24. #24
Right this nut isnt coming off so what should we do?

But a new copper hose from citroen? It must be quite long as it goes from near the strut up to the resevouir?

How much are these, anyone fitted before?

You can't buy it mate, it has to be made up from a roll of copper brake pipe.

Have citroen told you this then?

No, but we get people in all the time at work wanting new brake pipes/lines and we sell them a roll of 3/16th copper pipe and a brake flaring tool kit, along with some male and female unions.

Citroen will just make them up I would of thought!!
