might be in the wrong section so sorry if it is! anyway im after pics of engine bays from you people that have open air filters, id like to know if they can be located nearer to the front grille somehow or maybe at the front of the passenger side wheels arch to maximize the amount of cold air feed!
pic request please

#2open filters are crap..
buy a decent one. simple. -
#3i want sound though mate, and as long as performance isnt affected it will do.
-
#4open filter with a few cold air feeds
-
#6whack a heat shiled around it too
-
#7it will reduce heat soak dramatically though if its located in a decent place!

#9snewham, i agree with that statement you just made, surely air traveling down a heated carbon tube will warm up a bit!
-
#10the air going into the filter to start with will have had less heat soak, than a open filter relocated - then your still going to get further increase in gas temps as it travels down the induction system itself.Quote:snewham, i agree with that statement you just made, surely air traveling down a heated carbon tube will warm up a bit!
having a filter set low also increases the chances of water getting sucked into the engine in winter (as shown when someone relocated a viper low down and had a nice blown engine from it)
Im also a beliver in the way the gas velocity is increased in filter systems like the green enclosed and a procomp, something you wont get as much with an open filter with ducting going to it....
dont be a cheap skate..

#11If he wants just sound then an open filter is the way for him, imo anyway.
It will slow your car down but you will hardly notice it! -
#12This was my open 106 GTi item with a Heat shield and a cold air feed that fitted through the bottom of the heat shield. I personally found the cone to be alittle better at low revs ie round town, but I have a scoop as well which I found to be better at mid to high gains in the rev range.
heres pics of both

If your on a tight budget then a open filter is fine (as long as you have a good cold air supply) if you have more money to spare then buy the best you can afford ie BMC or a RaceLand item with a Green Cotton filter inside from www.Kam-Racing.com
