   hold the base and twist
   
   get some pliers on it for extra leverage

   Twist the base? everytime I've tried the roof of my car bends with the base of the Aerial!

   yeah i had the same problem, wd40 does the trick. leave it for half hour and come back to it. its a right bastard when they cease.
