Cam's on my VTS

  1. #1
    Hi,
I bought my cams from newman. Next step is fitting and preparing the rest of the engine and i need your advice and opinion.

Here is what i am going to do:
    1. Newman Phase 3 inlet cam Phase 1 exhaust cam
    2. Ported and polished head.
    3. Porting the throttle body to 56mm
    4. Modify the stock air box and adding K&N panel filter
    5. Changing the exhaust system with larger diameter of the pipe 54mm
    6. Stock manifold

Here is some projects with similar specifications to what i want to do:
    www.lioliosracing.gr/m...42〈=en

As i see the OEM manifold is good enough and it's possible to gain over 170hp with it.

so what is the point of this thread dude??

is it asking for advice or just telling us what your going to do?

170+ on standard inlet is very very rare btw...

why are you wanting to run a standard manifold with small ports?

I am interested what do you think. If it's possible or not because this is the only case i had seen with gains like this. And what i am really impressed is that they use OEM manifold.

there are different grinds of cams remeber, how do you know that they are not on a custom grind cam to produce that power?

i personally wouldnt get my hopes up to see 170+ although in theroy it can be done.

i am not a fan of polishing the throttle body to be honest.

and the headwork your doing seems quite mild to. i would speak to qep about the sort of headwork to go for as theyre the daddies.

them cars seem to make good power, all measured on the same rolling road dyno??

will you be matching the manifold ports to the head?

the cam spec is on that site, the use a phs 3 inlet and phs 2 exhaust iirc, havent had a look at that site for a while. i was interested in why they do that and if it does actually have any benefit over a 'normal' cam package.

i did!! but most the info is still not in english only select parts.

well it kept resetting itself back into greek.. trying to sort it now...

the links on the right kept sending it back into greek.

When you use smaller phase on the exhaust cam you will have better power band 2500-7000 instead 3000-7000 for standart cams. Also the idle will be better.

i see that on different set ups like the 168 they use supersprint fannymould..
  14. #14
Yes in this setup they sprint manifold but it's their earlier project. In their later projects they use OEM manifold.

im just sceptical about all the details they release.. most companies wont tell all secrets imo..
  16. #16
    Probably they are hiding something

Do you think this mod will have some effect?

Changing the stock exhaust pipe to 55mm and matching manifold ports to the head ports.

standard fanny is pants, that is all
