Saving weight

  1. #1
i have already stripped out the back of my saxo completly, side panels, seat etc. Just wandering if there is anything else i could do to save weight either inside or under the bonnet. Its a VTS, i want to keep things like carpet & headlining etc.

Also where can i get the carbon front door cards from?

    Thanks

PM jasonvts for carbon doorcards. I have removed all the interior trim in my car including the headlining and all sunroof trims/sliders etc!

One way to reduce weight over thefront of your vts is to buy some lightweight alloys, carbon bonnet, move battery from inside engine bay to inside passenger compartment.

An aftermarket manifold will help as they are loads lighter, even a decent exhaust can be a lot lighter than standard. Not really an awful lot else you can do under the bonnet, except remove the carpet from underneath

    ^^^

Apart from removing interior parts the wheels are the probally the next weight killer, lighter weight alloys or steel rims like on the 106 Rallye will help there.

All depends on how far you want to go - Stereo weight abit, if that goes speakers go but could you drive with out music . . . I can for a while but not for too long, like I said how far do want to go

get the carpets out! lol remove sound deadening from under the bonnet?

take out your rear motor and wiper blade.

also take your spare wheel off and take the spare wheel cage off. get the carpet AND sound deading out mate, saves loads of weight. then you have tar int he foot wells under the carpet, get a heat gun and get that off, you will. have this tar shit onthe back of your rear arches under the thin carpet. get it all off. dont do half a job

im always looking to lose wieght on the car, every little bit helps and it really shows on track.

just take the all the panels off, and it will be light as fuk, might get a little wind resistance, but it will light lol!!!

if you want to stump up around £1600 I can get you some very tasty speedlline alloys - magnesium alloy race wheels lol

The sunroof weighs a fair bit. Plus, it's located in the worst place, right at the top of the car. If you can get that removed, it will be worth it.

Or... Some 15" Superleggera alloys, which are ALLOY, but weigh in at a similar amount to the very expensive mag alloys.

The sunroof and ancillaries do weigh a fair amount but will have no benefit just removing them because of the reduced aerodynamics without it! If you do get rid of that you can buy a non-sunroof skin from Citroen for £139, or get a company to fabricate a carbon fibre one for a few pennies!

Yup. I wasn't expecting someone just to leave it wide open! Haha.

perspex windows, drill out the skins on boot and doorcards
