Immobiliser Light Problem Major!

  1. #1
Right, yesterday i had a great day, trying to fit a manifold, the manifold was touching an earth point under car, and then was resting up the top by the head, well it slipped from where it was resting, and hit the alternator live, which short, fucked the whole wire, so i had to go about and strip all the wires and get the wire out, then replaced it, sorted all the rest of the wires whilst i was at it.

Now its all sorted now, alternator works as far as i know (is there a way to check?) and the battery is working, but when putting the key in the ignition, the imobiliser light flashes, the car wont start and the fuel gauge is going from full to empty, full to empty then just sits on empty, but no light, it seems that somethings blocking the fuel?

Now after looking at all kinds of things im thinking its down to the imobiliser that the car wont start, would this cause the car not to start? and the fuel gauge to be acting dodgy?

If not can you think of anything else that could be causing this?

The engine trys to start, it ticks over, the fuel pump is working, you can hear it prime, ive tried another battery on it, not yet tried bump or jump start just figured if the other battery doesnt work, there isnt a problem with the battery.

Ment to be taking the car down south with me on Sunday at the moment it doesnt look that way...

    Push the big red button!
  3. #3
Missed that out, ive also tried the fuel cut off switch nothing
  4. #4
    Doh unsure then mate.

I know how you feel though this happend to me once and i just couldnt figure out what the hell it was, but then some one said push the big red button and it worked

    Hope you find it....
  5. #5
gona go push it again, does that effect the imobiliser?
  6. #6
Not sure i dont think so though?

When i pushed mine it didnt work first time so i took it apart and reconnected it then pushed it again and it worked.

Make sure you push it hard!

tried no luck, cant find my hand book to see if it says anything about resetting the standard imobiliser
  8. #8
Just had a look through mine cant find anything about it?

Its just a matter of retracing your steps mate....
  9. #9
Maybe an engine reset might do it?
  10. #10
Im out of ideas man, but the flashing immobiliser needs to be focused on.
  11. #11
    i cant retrace my steps!

must be something to do with the light flashing but handbook says nothing
  12. #12
Leave the battery disconnected for a while?
  13. #13
    been off for a while
  14. #14
    possible burnt out imobilser
  15. #15
does anyone know if the imobiliser would cause the car not to start and for it to appear that there isnt any fuel?
  16. #16
yeah thats the point of imobilser so it doesnt start the car

not sure on the fuel situation though
  17. #17
have you messed about with the key, on my old vtr it was a problem with the transponder in the key what gets recongised by the ignition. mine used to be very annoying at petrol stations etc because it would take ages till it reconised it!
  18. #18
nah done nothing with key, batterys been disconnected for a while now, gona go check it, looks like its a trip to citroen tomorrow, il ask my mam to put house up for sale to fund it...
  19. #19
sounds like its fried something else down the line. sounds canny expensive
  20. #20
aye dont i know it, hope its not the ecu...
  21. #21
Is there anything in the Haynes manual with regards to this?

Presume you have probably looked through it already.
  22. #22
    me and ad did today
  23. #23
    haynes was incredibly useful...

'check that you have got fuel in the car'

oh shit thats why it didnt start, silly me...
let us know how you get on tomorrow
  24. #24
im going for fried ecu or fried something on imobilser
  25. #25
an after thought i had last night, sounds simple but easy over looked have you checked the two fuse boxes in the bay and the one in the car?
  26. #26

  27. #27

  30. #30

    its in, wiring fault supposedly

not back yet gona go up 2moro and harass them some more
  35. #35
just had a look and so it is thanks mate
  36. #36
big red button is just for an impact to the car, it drops a ball bearing into fuel line. when you press the button a magnet picks the ball bearing back up out of the way and allows full flow again

sounds like you have fried something important matt.

should always disconnect the battery when your messing about i had to learn the hard way to mate.

hope you get it sorted bud.
