overheating

  1. #1
not long had my vtr out the garage needed front end rebuild jus bout.
got my radiator and fan replaced and now i feel its overheating too quick and the temp gauge sitting higher than normal...i have started to notice that the fan is coming on bit too late the fan comes when the needle goes over the halfway point and sometimes when the red light is on.
the water level doesnt really move much either.

any ideas wat it might be?
it was a body shop i took it too dunno whether to take it back to him or go to a garage?
wasnt very impressed cause he left me with no water or anti-freeze in the car when i drove off.

    all advice welcome

sorry still learning bout it all.lol

well you need to bleed the cooling system as the air will be trapped inside it

My fan comes on after the half way mark aswell, in normal driving conditions it doesnt cross the half way mark, only once iv parked or sitting in traffic after the engines been ruining for a while.

Its worth checking for an air bloke first.

run the engine till it starts to get warm then fill the rad up to the brim and then litely rev the engine you Should get water come over the top and bubble coming outa the rad. Repeat the process a few times then replace the cap and let the car cool down. Run the car from cold and see what happens.

If the car runs fine then when you turn it off the rad cap should release the extra pressure and allow some of the water to escape from the system, just let the system find its own level and add a little coolant/anti freeze alittle at a time.

If the car still gets hot then Id point the fingure at the thermostate, change that and repeat the above process when filling the system back up.

If both have been done and still the engine gets warm, then get the cooling system dye tested this will show up CO2 in the water ie exhaust gases ie Head Gasket

Try the first one and see what happens and just take it from there.

The only real time a saxo should get warm is exiting a long motorway trip and then sitting in traffic, heavy town traffic or something has covered the front of the rad ie plastic bag from the road. At all other times the tamp gauge shouldnt go above 3/4 unless something is very wrong

i have the same with mine mate. its since i put a new rad on. it seems to sit higher that normal and heat up quicker. i got told that the rad i have is slightly thiner than the old one but according to my local motor factors its the same code. my needle is always above normal and i have never had any probs mate.

If the temp gauge is anything over half way on a constant basis Id check for air blocks and change the thermostat asap!

Main dealer thermo is only about £12 and is dead easy to do.

    Get it sorted
