Advice please.

I need some advice ladies and gents..

    Basically.

Do i get a VTS lump and put it in mine or not? i know these have been asked before but people have different circumstances etc.

I want to do a few trackdays a year but the rest of the time i will spend just daily driving, there are 2 things that are in my way at the moment.

Insurance, especially on a conversion will be high even in a year or so and when i come to sell it () it may be difficult to get rid of..

I'm not bored of my 1.4 by no means as its quick enough for me, just struggles after 90 or so (lol). For some reason getting a 16v lump has been bugging me recently, is it worth the extra money in insurance, running costs and getting it all together in the first place.

Also i dont want to buy another saxo because i have put too much time and money into mine.

Although i do quite like the idea of having a quite well spec'd up 1.4.. Its different, you dont see many..

    Help! lol..

I'd move the budget over to the suspension and chassis.

A well set up car will be faster than most on the corners, so the engines limitations on the straights are not so apparent.

If I wanted to do an insurance friendly engine swap I'd fit the 1.3 rallye engine. Just tell the insurance company you've fitted a 1.3 lol - surely it must be slower!

Yeah thats what i was thinking kam, just sorting the handling and braking. Getting that good! lol.

After all it isn't a drag car!

Well when mine decides to die, hopefully not for a a long time yet then i'll consider whether to rebuild mine to a higher spec or change to like you said a rallye engine or something like that.

    Cheers for the reply.

Had my westy running on billies and with 206gti brakes and they are awesome round the twistys for the crappy power from the 1.4.

If your still left wanting more power you could always get a cam, manifold, de-cat, zorst system and your head played with by QEP

Keep the 1.4 in her, and go to town on the sus, and brakes to start. Know you have ordered a sus kit, so you have already gone part the way down the road.

As you know, the 1360 is tuneable, so think bout doing head work, and getting it breathing right. Come and see us on the weekend, and get some ideas.

I would go for the VTS m8 as i have found it to be the most fun car ever to drive. I do 266 to a fill tank ( going steady ). The vts lump seems go work well with engine mods as well giving that bit more dependent on what mods u add. TBH take a vts for a test drive and see what you think. I wont lie Insurance and fuel will cost you the most but depends what you want from a car m8.

Hope this helps u make ur mind up.

get the car set up right, as said suspension, and brakes, cage etc.. to stiffen it all up, on track its not all about power, absolutely pissed on a fair few vts owners at llandow a few weeks back in my fully leathered up 8v lol!

only mod was 4 pots, so it just shows what is more important imo!!!

once you have learned how to drive on track fast then think about the extra power, its why i staggered my track driving with my track car being built.

thanks for all the replys and i will keep my engine for now i think and do as said by a few and get the sus and brakes sorted.

Maybe when my engine gives up i'll 16v it.

    Thanks everyone!

Foggy-will be there dont you worry

if you have the car set up right you will have alot of fun! and once your quick then you can not just 16v it you can 16v it in a mans way by adding a nice set of TBs

If i 16v'd it i would spend alot of money me thinks on cams and TB's etc like you said. Do it properly eh.

ja dont just 16v it, keep the 8v running till you have a spec like.

16v - DTH bodies, BV head, solid lifters, mad cams like 803/809s, high comp pistons, forged rods, baffled sump and a nice ecu to run it on

I like your thinking, its expensive, but i like!! lol.

Well i guess we'll see whats what, never know what the little 1400 will be like on track with a good sus and brake setup.

As i have said before, its not a drag car.

Keep it for now mate, its different. Be cool to see how it turn out. You can get more power from a bigger lump later onwhen insurance wont be as gay

Or steal the frp and borrow the engine, bit of weldin, wack it in the boot and make some custom shafts and your laughin

By the time you have saved enough money for the 16v conversion two things would have happened

    1) you would have sacrificed chassis mods as you was saving you money for the 16v lump
    2) by then your insurance might have dropped and you 'mite' want to move away from saxo's altogther

Plus you'd have to start all over again with engine mods and the extra insurance.

Like I say to anyone in you postion with VTRs - enjoy the car

Yeah chaps, the 8v will be staying for now i think and we will see what happens, cheers.

if you have the cash to spend mate, go for it

kamracing had a good idea with the 1.3 ralleye motor.

1.3 with 100bhp standard better than a vtr lol
  21. #21
cheaper tax too than a 1.6 lol
  22. #22
    lol, very true boz..

Will see anyway, if my engine decides its had enough will make a decision then, but for now my little 8v will do.
